I searched but couldn't find anything. Anyone have some advice on where I should stay? The closer to the stadium the better is what I'm thinking, unless anyone knows if that's a bad idea. Looking for the best deal but I don't want to stay in a motel 6 or anything like that. Looking to spend anywhere from 100-250 a night.

It will just be me and my gf so I was also curious would this be a good tailgate to attend?

Thanks for the help!

You graduated in 2005 (or 2009) and don't have a friend living in Houston?

Stay downtown, party in midtown, and take the train to reliant. All you need to know.

This! I was going to stay near the stadium but switched to the Hyatt. If you catch the rangers/stros game that Friday night, the room is a tad over $100...with transport to that game and back for free...and it's right next to the rail line to take you to and from the game.

Edit: Previous Discussion

Group of us are staying there as well. When my dad booked, they said if you bring a ticket stub from the Astros game you get free parking. If not, it's $30/nt

Have a group staying at the Hyatt as well. Glad to know that we won't be in enemy territory.

I graduated last year and know plenty of people in Houston, but I'm not a broke arse. So I'm not trying to inconvenience them and will be staying at a hotel

Me and some buddies will be staying at the Hyatt Regency as well. It will probably be cheaper just to go scalp an Astros ticket just to get free parking as opposed to paying $60 for parking huh?

I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza. It is one block from the stadium. So no parking issues. no traffic. no hassles. I booked the room last weekend there were still plenty available

What rate did you get?
ETA: Nevermind, they don't have a room.

Make your own tailgate. Walk over to Main Street and barhop along the Metrorail.

La Carafe, Dean's Downtown, Little Dipper, Goro & Gun, Flying Saucer, Warren's Inn, El Big Bad are all in downtown. Midtown...Mongoose Vs Cobra , Leon's Lounge and Proof are all right next to the metro stop. And at least a dozen more within a 5 block walk.

Staying close to the stadium is a terrible idea. It's not like NOLA or BR - the stadium is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Stay downtown. Take the light rail. It's the best option by a billion.

Downtown Houston isn't generally hopping on the weekends, but that weekend will be quite different because of the people who are there. I think whoever has some really good specials will pack em in.

Find the $10 bucket specials, or 2 for 1 all day happy hour deals (for example) and that is where you will find the drunk cajuns.

This. Yes, it's not possible to have a "typical" tailgating experience for this game, but all of these bars are bad arse...and very convenient to get to via the rail.

My only concern is tens of thousands of people trying to do the same exact thing, all at once. Only so many trains on that line, never rode it for a Texans game or HLSR myself...

Edit: I recommend Hotel ICON. Very nice place, right on rail line, near Market Square Park and many very nice bars in DT.
