When do you guys normally start seeing teal? Saw a report on DU's migration map that some guy in the western portion of the state was already starting to see small groups. Seems pretty early to me. I usually don't see any until the first week of September or the end of august. I can't wait!

Had seen them as early as late July before due to a hurricane in the pass. That report you saw most likely was young wood ducks. Way to many people mistake them for teal.

with this polar vortex hitting, along with all the water, we might see some this weekend.

That DU Migration App has reports of Blue Wings in Mobile Bay, High Island, TX, Scottsboro, AL. Crazy stuff when you consider that you can't post stuff on the internet if its not true.

I've always referenced the first cold front in August.

But like what was said above with that polar vertex thing... that's a new dynamic if it stays and produces some gnarly cold fronts. Could see them earlier.

Yup. Round NWLA the woodie hatchlings are just about perfect teal size. Coupled with the "polar vortex" (why can't we just call it a cold front... anyway I digress) and hopeful hunters think they are seeing teal. The only birds I am seeing are resident/domestic mallards, resident woodies, and MAYBE some black-bellied whistling ducks will start showing up soon.

People see wood ducks right now and call them teal. So I guess the sightings have already started.

shite, I had blue wings in my back yard till June. They better get up , have babies by record numbers like always, then fly back down so I can shoot at em a little bit

I saw 4 near Caterina, Tx the about a week ago. The were flying fast and level so I guess they could have been young wood ducks but I was convinced at the time they were blue wings. Also saw some black bellies but no surprise there.

FWIW, I was fishing before sunrise where 190 meets 90 near Slidell.

5 ducks flew by and they looked and sounded like Blue Winged Teal.

Surprised the hell out of me. I really don't think they were woodies, but it's too early for the Teal.

I caught one nice goggle-eye, then 5 minutes later it started raining. Urrrggghhh.

Held on to quite a few till late May here in SETX. Usually start seeing some show up in late August but the biggest wad doesn't start showing up good till the first full moon in Sept or if lucky, a Polar Vortex.
