LANDOVER, Md. – FedExField, home of the Washington Redskins, announced today the addition of another high-profile college football game to its schedule. Virginia Tech and West Virginia (WVU) will open the 2017 college football season in a matchup set for Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017.

“We are excited to welcome Virginia Tech and West Virginia to FedExField in 2017,” said Redskins Chief Marketing Officer Mitch Gershman. “We are proud to continue the commitment to our season ticket holders and fans to host the most competitive and nationally acclaimed matchups in the country.”

Only setting the O/U at 80?...I'll take the over. DC doesn't know what's coming when you put these two fan bases together.

Excited about this, miss playing VPI.

You think he can survive this year? What is this year four?

2011-BCS Winner
2012-Bowl Game
2013-5 wins
2014-4 wins??

That's a rough trend. Don't care and wish you guys the best of luck. It just doesn't look promising.

This series wouldn't last if it was done at home and home. Too many fights and arrests

I doubt you could get Jones to leave UT, so would you really take Rich Rod back?

I like Holgs and hope he succeeds but if not I would definitely take Rod back and so would most of the fan base.

Jones would be my second choice, he has always coveted the WV job so grabbing him from Tenn would be no biggie IMO.

I listened to Jones presser today, he's snug as a bug in TN. Only way he's available to WV is if he tanks-and that won't happen in the Dana tanking timeline. RR returning would require laser butt repair for much of the fanbase. He's an innovator and arguably changed the whole cfb landscape, but personally I'd rather them move forward.

To the OP's point, hell yeah. Between Pitt & VT two great rivalries died with realignment. It may be a neutral field, but if you're familiar with the series, it'll still be a charged atmosphere.

the tailgating in 2017 will be great. Unlike Pitt, VT has a loyal following who is similar to WV fans in many ways. I'm glad they are renewing the VT and PSU series over Pitt.
