In less than 24 hours, restaurateur Ralph Brennan will bring the name Brennan's back to 417 Royal St., barring very unusual circumstances. The assets of Brennan's Inc., the company that once controlled the landmark French Quarter restaurant, will be auctioned Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana. But, as of Tuesday (July 8), there was only bidder, Ralph Brennan, who is offering $3 million (roughly $500,000 in cash and the rest in assorted assets).

I thought they've been battling for rights to the name for years?

Hopefully they change that menu up entirely.

If you read the article, the corp running the restaurant filed Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy, so the assets, including the name, menu, wine and logo are up for grabs. Ralph's gonna pay $3 mill for that lot. I imagine the wine collection may be worth quite a bit. The $3 mil will go to creditors who are owed about $10 mil.

Ahhh, thanks. I don't click a lot of links when reading from my phone.

Yeah, I'd say the name is the least of their problems.

Well, obviously they're going to keep a lot of classic, traditional dishes that are untouchable on that menu.

My understanding is they have a brand new chef and the menu will keep some favorites but otherwise will be drastically modernized.

I predict that by this time next year Brennan's will be the place to be. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the new place.

You may be right. Lots of places get undue praise.
My money is on Brennan's being another better than average boring restaurant. Their family has made a fortune with that formula. They must own 15 high end/expensive restaurants and 1 (Commanders) is a top 10 type place.

There are some inaccuracies in that article. Buyer beware.
The menu is changing. It will be much more exciting.

Slade Rushing is supposed to be the executive chef. Wonder what that means for MiLa

Commanders
Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse
Bourbon house
Cafe Adelaide
Ralph's on the Park
Mr B's
Red Fish Grill
Palace Café
Bacco
New Brennan's
There is more?
Why do they all have to be top 10? There are certainly some really good places in that bunch.

I remember someone on the board giving me grief when I suggested that the restaurant would be called Brennan's.

Yep. Ralph himself specializes in this concept very well.
With Slade coming on board, you never know though.

That's true...I'm thinking with him as Executive Chef that it could be worth trying. But I'm not too crazy about going out of my way to try a Brennan's restaurant when there are so many other better restaurants that I want to try.

Who said they all had to be top 10?
You listed quite a few places and only 1 even sniffs the top 10.

Ralph runs tight operations which are focused on the bottom line (he is a CPA by trade), but they are usually solid in food and service. However, the wrinkle in this relationship is the inclusion of Terry White (google snow white deb party new orleans).
If I had to guess, new Brennan's will be a big player in fine dining in no time with excellent food, a deep and noteworthy wine cellar, and top notch service.

This is exactly what I'm expecting in order that the restaurant become financially successful.

I agree, but I go to a CPA for my taxes not my meals.

Time will tell. I hope you're right, and he gives TW the freedom to develop an interesting menu.
I doubt they will, few restaurants in the quarter are very adventerous. They largely cater to tourists who are looking for something familiar. Revolution has one of the largest menus in town because they're trying to cater to everyone, and I'm not sure that's a viable business model.
