I got an email from Capital One this morning offering to roll my normal CC I've had with them since 1999 over to one of these two account... No application, no credit check, no changes, just a different card and rewards program.

Thoughts on which one would be a better choice?

Venture = 1.25m for every dollar
QuickSilver = 1.5% cashback

I'm not familiar with how well CapOne miles transfer

They don't. You get 1 cent per mile to use to purchase tickets. You cannot transfer them out to ANY airline mileage program. Chase and Amex for that.

I'm gonna use my Sapphire Preferred 99% of the time, but would use these occasionally if they ran any good promos.

Was just curious which was the better card out of those two

We've got the Cap One LSU card. No fee. Pays 2x pts on gas and groceries (including WalMart grocery). So gas, groceries and Sam's are the only times we use Cap One. Rest of time we use Sapphire Preferred.

I would only transfer cards if they made the bonus available. I believe it's 20k for the Venture right now.

Nah, they won't give the bonus because its not a new account, they are just rolling over an existing account.

It sounds like they are doing away with the account that I have being its 15yrs old and trying to get everyone into one of those two programs. I don't think I've used the card in over a year, so really not that concerned about the pts.

I was just curious which of the two would be the better to have in the even that I ever did need to use it.

I'd get the Quicksilver in case I ever wanted to get the Venture bonus since you really aren't going to use either. I think they rolled me over to the quicksilver last year as well.

This is what I would do too.

I've been trying to decide between this card (Sapphire Preferred) and Capital One Venture to pair with my AMEX. Is there one that is noticeably better than the other? I generally use these cards for all of my purchases so I am probably looking for which one has the best flat rate for points and the most convenient for using for travel (use any airline and hotel that I want). I also noticed that the Sapphire card's annual fee is $95 compared to Capital One of $59.

You'll get better value for your points with the CSP. You can transfer the points to an airline and use them. You only get what amounts to a statement credit for the amount spent with Capital One points. IOW, a $500 ticket costs 50000 points.

That is more convenient. In terms of accumulating points, are both of these fairly even or is there a noticeable difference one way or the other? I see Venture card offers 2x miles per dollar while CSP offers 1 point per dollar, but is there a something I'm missing here.

The upfront bonus is nicer on the CSP. I use the American Express PRG card mostly because it's 3X airline tickets and 2X gas and groceries. That said, I'm using Chase Freedom right now for gas because this quarter it's 5X points for gas up to $1500 spent in the quarter.

Venture offers 2xs on the upgraded card that has a yearly fee... CSP offers 1pt on every dollar and double pts on dining/food/grocery if I remember right.

CSP offers 2X points on dining and travel. No bonus on groceries.

You almost need a spreadsheet to track everything.

Right now we do:

Airline tickets, all business expenses and groceries - American Express PRG
Dining - CSP
Gas - Chase Freedom

My guess is they are giving you the option today. In a few months, there will be no option, they will make the change for you.

The main thing a lot of people miss is that a 1pt from Capital One does not equal a "point" from Chase which does not equal a "point" from Amex and so on.

This is similar to how I would like to finish maximizing points eventually. Right now, I only have a AE Blue Sky card and am just using it on everything I purchase (I only put about $1000-1500/ month). Was looking to get a capital one or chase card due to American Express not being universal and wouldnt mind a nice bonus for a trip coming up next year.

I'm going to do a round of apps later this fall. I'll focus on a couple of Chase cards primarily. I want a British Airways card and now want a United card. There's a direct flight from Dulles on Wednesdays to St. Thomas which gets me to the destinations I enjoy in USVI and BVI.

I'll probably get an American Express business card at the same time. It's the only way I can get a bonus with Amex now as they've limited the bonuses to one per person lifetime for personal and business.
