This old grill was about 5 to 10 years old in 1993 when I started dating my wife.

It's been under her grandparents carport all this time. They told me yesterday I could have it if I would give it to my dad.

Over all in good shape, just the cast iron grates were really rusted.

So I started cleaning my heart out. Just got the coals hot as hell and coated the grates with canola oil. Then used paper towels to lightly coat the out side while it was still hot.

Cooked about a dozen inch thick bone in pork chops, and 12 chicken quarters yesterday for the 4th. Must have turned out pretty good, cause there was very little left!!

Thats a pretty good job on that old grill.

Buddy of mine was in the same situation about a year ago. Grill in his new house looked like hell but after about an hour or two of getting some heat in there and scrubbing like hell, it turned out pretty nice

what yall got growing in pic 3?

That's squash
Now that my dad is retired, his garden is huge.

We're sitting out here on the porch and my mom is in there right now putting up pickles.

We had one just like that. My mom has a picture of me with my head sticking out of that door covered in ash. That was probably around 81

Me too, and they are.

OP ought to get a rotisserie kit and cook his next turkey on it. Nothing like it, not even fried turkey! You can also get a smoker box that drops in in place of 1 of the grill sections.

How did you clean the grill, wire brush, metal scraper, sandblast?

The old man had one just like that, and his rotisserie attachment with those pork roasts and chickens were legendary on the weekends.

I'm assuming that it's a Char Broil - that's what my dad had in my youth. Back then, they were a little sturdier, but the functionality is still solid.

Brushed all the spiderwebs and debris off with a broom. Then got it hot while cooking and dabbed canola oil on a paper towel, and lightly/ gently / evenly coated the outside and inside.
