With Hurricanes likely to start popping up now, I'm trying to see if I have a good list of stuff I should have for riding out a storm.

I live north of I12 in Mandeville, no trees taller than 15ft in the subdivision right now so I'm not worried about that.

-I have 8 cases of water (the wife and I drink a lot of water bottles anyway, always trying to refill them to recycle a bit)
-All 4 of my 5 gallon gas cans filled with Stabil
-Enough canned/freeze dried food to last me through 5 Katrinas
-Plenty of batteries of different sizes
-Plenty of flashlights
-Crank lantern and radio
-Spare propane tank for the grill
-Firepower for looters if needed

Only thing I don't have is a generator, but if power if out for long enough, my parents have a Generac system at their house about 7 miles away.

List what you guys make sure you have during Hurricane season

Hmmmmm.....

About 5 cases of water

Need to fill up all my fuel cans. I have about 20 gallons of storage for gas, about 15 for diesel.

A metric shite-ton of canned goods, a lot of canned vegetables and Ravioli type stuff but also canned chicken and beef.

Several cases of MREs but that's only going to get eaten as a last resort. You don't want to exist on MREs for more than a couple days if you can help it.

Lots of rechargeable batteries

Gotta check my generator, don't want to lose what's in the freezer and refrigerators if I can help it.

3 - 20 pound propane tanks

Firepower - check

Plenty of hand, electric and air powered tools.

Tractor and chain saw

I just hope the shed doesn't get blown away or toppled onto my stuff.

FWIW, after Katrina, I ate MREs for meals for about 3 weeks by choice and love it

I was stuck in Bogalusa when Katrina hit. I snagged probably 10 or so cases after the storm came through. I ate a few MREs during that time, and never had a problem.

All I know is what I have read, that some people on a steady diet of MREs will eventually get plugged up.

I guess it's just luck of the draw.

MREs are about 2000 calories a package so keep them away from the lady.

I've got some leftovers Carretas and 3 Mexican Cokes. Don't get much more prepared than that

Eta:
-Get some 1 gallon jugs of water. They are much, much cheaper than bottled water.
-Get a small Stihl saw. A 16-18" bar is perfect. With that you're gonna need bar oil and mix. You face the possibility of being stuck in your neighborhood.
-Get one or two of those $100 AC units at Home Depot
-I'm not writing out how to, but make a muffler for the generator. shite gets aggravating after a few days
-Figure out something for you to do during the day. If you aren't working, it gets boring as hell(I wouldn't know)

Eta #2: 4 5 gallon jugs of fuel will last you maybe 3 days of continuous running

You missed where I said I don't have a generator....don't plan on getting one. If things are bad enough, I'll be going to my parents house after a couple days of no AC. They have a full house Generac

Pick up some of those solar yard lights. Great for inside if the lights go out. I buy those cheap ones at Walmarts for a buck or two. As long as you don't pull the paper tag, they will last a long time before needing them.
