2 angles on the gif in the link. That Mexican ref was pretty much garbage the whole match. Tough call in that spot.
ETA: Ecuador ref, not Mexican. And he wasn't horrible the whole match.

I felt he was fouled. Thought the angle from behind showed his foot getting clipped into his leg

Yes. It was a clear scoring chance in the box and contact was made that prevented Greek Jesus from getting off a shot.

Yes, it was definitely a foul, but Samaras definitely embellished. Ref made the right call.

Since it was Samaras, Ivory Coast should have had no fear of him scoring to even foul. Stupid foul cost them advancing.
Samaras is pretty much the most frustrating player to watch that I can think of.

people were right to be initially upset. looked like he tripped himself at first. but it was definitely a foul. sio caught samaras' leg.
