Has anyone been ticketed for accelerating before a new speed limit sign?

Driving through BFE in NLA and a cop pulled me over about a mile after the speed limit changed from 40 to 55. He claimed I started to accelerate before I reached the new sign and that he got me going 50 in the 40 MPH zone. I most likely did, but it couldn't have been more than a couple hundred feet before the sign.
Has this happened to anyone else? Also, any way I can get this plead down to a non-moving violation? I'm mainly worried about my insurance rates going up with a speeding ticket, as I don't have any moving violaitons on my record. TIA

Got one like that in Port Barre a few years ago, paid fine, kept it off my record. Just call they just want your money.

Yes, but you will likely have to go back and handle it in person by speaking to one of the Asst DAs.

yep...happened to be in Forest Hill, LA.

It's a essentially one of the ways a speed trap operates. They do it the other way too by catching you not decelerating adequately when a limit drops.
North LA. Quota time. Sucks.
Has happened to me, sadly.

How far was the cop set up from the sign? I think they have to be a certain distance from the sign to not be considered a speed trap.

How do cops still wonder why everyone hates them?

if you can see the sign i would think you could start accelerating...at least that is my rule of thumb...doesn't mean its right

Unfortunately this is not the law. If it were, then I did nothing illegal

Not sure if accurate, but years ago I had to take a drivers safety class for a ticket and the instructor said that the law expects you to reach the speed limit by the time you get to the sign. Meaning you can accelerate prior to the sign...might want to check the law as it is written bc the instructor seemed.like a dumbass.

I still think the cop was being a dick

Mine said the same thing. Maybe it was the same guy and he was an idiot, but that is what he said.

This is true no matter how the law is written.

They tried to give me one in Port Barre when the new sign reduced the speed 10 mph. Lights flashed just as I was pressing the brake. Some how the cop let me out of it in spite of the fact that I was basically screaming at him. Total racket over there

Dothan, Alabama. I will take many pains to avoid that shithole.

North of dothan is worse than dothan itself, too many cars to get up to speed in dothan anyway.

Where was it exactly? If it was Ferriday, just pay it. They've spotlighted them on the local news several times as lying pieces of shite. Pulling people over basically whenever they feel like it. Lying and saying they know they were speeding even though they didn't get them on radar. Huge racket and piece of shite town.
