EDIT on March 18 2021. This post was from 2014. It was an epic bump by someone else.

I don't remember anything other than what is posted here. My sons are in college and no longer playing ball.

USSSA prolly still sucks.

We were at the Tournament in Hammond and it was called due to rain today so they awarded the tropheys by seeds.

The team who won one of the 9 years old bracket was 0-0 and declared the winners. Last night they did not get a chance to play their pool games because of rain, so they were ranked #1 because 0 runs scored against them. Of course they had 0 runs against them they didn't play.

Today, the tourney was called before they could play their first game, so since they were the #1 seed when the tourney was called they were awarded 1st place.

Makes sense right? Way to earn those trophies. If I were the coach I would have declined but of course they didnt.

He certainly sounds mad, but he also has a point. That might be the dumbest shite I've ever heard of in sports.

Of course they wouldn't end the tournament without declaring a winner though, I'm sure they'd lose all that money they pulled in.

Not really, it wasn't my sons bracket. The team who won ours was half way deserving. There was some mad mommas of the kids in the bracket I described though.

How else should they have given out the trophies? Obviously they shouldn't have given out but if they were going to do it I think doing it based off of seeding makes as much sense as any other way?

I don't really care if you do or not.

I just think it's a joke to award the 1st place trophy to a team who didnt even take the field.

As for this comment, have you seen the competition at the parks these days? We live in a world where everyone wins and everyone gets a trophy for showing up. God forbid any kid for wanting to play with kids who can actually throw and catch. There is no outlet for these kids other than USSSA or Grandslam at the younger ages.

Park based "All Star" teams get routinely trounced in these tourneys even at the lowest level.

Contrary to what this board thinks, there is a great number of people who actually know their kid won't play college sports or become the next Mike Trout. All they want is to see their kid play competitive sports and complete at a higher level than park ball. The horror.

It wasn't his kid. They (USSSA) make a mint, however if you think rec. ball will help advance your kids game you're fooling yourself. I'm not talking about being a pro / elite high school player etc..., just competing in an advanced skill game. The bottom of the barrel AA teams are vastly superior to almost all rec. teams. There are exceptions, but as a rule it's not close. Kids learn the game and compete against other kids who are trained/skilled... that's the purpose. The NEGATIVES are outweighed by the POSITIVES.

Park ball levels get trounced bc all the elite kids that's would have been playing for the all star teams are playing for one of the many daddy coached USSA teams instead of the Rec teams .

No, b/c all the rec. kids DON'T show up for practice/games and don't play b/c they love the game of baseball. They think playing a sport is showing up twice a week for 3 weeks (practice) prepares you for a skilled game. They may show up for a 6p game at 555, let's be real about the situation. Rec was a big part of our lives (40+ crowd), but it's a thing of the past, just like the land line phone. As far as the "daddy" coached teams, well I'm sure no rec. teams have fathers coaching, let's be honest.
