Both about the same drive from New Orleans.
Never been to Gulf Islands, haven't been to Blue Bayou in seven years.
Taking kids with us. Usually I would just go to New Braunfels, but we wanted a day trip and not a four day weekend.

for all that I'll just go to the splash park in the zoo.
I want at least 3-4 fun rides.

Blue Bayou has gone way down hill in the past 5 years. NBR and LP folks for the most part. I've never been to Gulf Islands

I haven't been to blue bayou in forever but I did see it on the travel channel for its new slides

eta i also think that liberty lagoon and the trash park in the lp have probably taken some of the undesirables from the park

You could also do Buccaneer State Park in Waveland.
They have the wave pool and a few waterslides.

Probably a rip off, it's a water park that has been under construction for at least 5 years and still hasn't opened.

I haven't been to blue bayou in over 10 years but I just can't see that it can be as bad as people make it out on here. I mean I'm sure it's no schlitterbahn but it can't be that bad.

Just look at the type of people that are walking across that bridge over Highland Road.
If the owners would reduce the one day cost just a bit, and cut out that season pass crap, they'd attract a nicer crowd.

Blue Bayou actually has some of the best water slides of any water park in the country. However, the park is poorly maintained and unsanitary. If they simply kept it half as clean as Wet 'n Wild, it would be the #2 or 3 water park in America. Alas...the place is f*&king gross.

If you google it there are articles from 2010 saying they are 80% complete on construction.

Blue bayou has the mad moccasins, which is the greatest water slide of all time. Those snakes don't give a frick about your body.

Blue bayous slides are better than schlitterbahn IMO

It spoils me that the first park I ever went to was Schlitterbahn.
Such a great park, I also enjoy that the water is spring water, it doesn't mess with your skin like chlorine (new park does use treated water but original is Comal river water)
