FIFA and "Simulating"
Posted on 6/17/14 at 6:07 pm

I consider myself a casual soccer fan, tho I am growing fonder of the sport. That being said, I find simulating/diving a big turnoff as I'm sure many other casual fans do. I understand that soccer is already the most popular sport in the world, but it can be improved and draw in even more fans if the ridiculous faking would be eliminated. Does FIFA have any stance on the issue? Are they looking into ways of eliminating the diving/simulating? The info I found from searching was just opinion and annoyance from fans/journalists, but nothing from FIFA itself.

Do we need this thread every fricking day?

I honestly don't think it has been that bad.

It hasn't. People just see a guy go down and flip out, flop or not.

That's what I thought. I haven't seen every match, but I haven't seen a lot of flopping in the ones I have watched.

Watching someone writhe in pain on the ground and then hop up a second later is ridiculous. It makes the viewing harder for casual fans or people trying to get into the sport. BS fouls can also have an effect on the game.
I just don't understand why faking injury is allowed to be a legitimate strategy when it should be something penalized. It's really senseless.

The NCAA, NFL, and NBA definitely need to do something.

What are you talking about? I've seen lots of players get their foots and ankles stepped on. Do you not know how much that shite hurts?! Cleats aren't exactly heavily armored.

Refs are encouraged to card it when it happens although they rarely do.

It doesn't hurt the way the make it seem. Any casual fan who bitches about the players acting like they just got shot are 100% correct.

they all wear metal spikes too

Do me a favor. Run as fast as you can and have someone trip you. Report back.
I played soccer and when you go down it can hurt like a mother fricker, even if only for a little bit.
There is some embellishment, but that's in every sport. It looks worse than it is because of the speed at which the game is played.

It doesn't hurt like they act. And every 50/50 ball someone is grabbing their face. Even when there was no head contact.

Its really only when certain latin american teams are playing as well.
I could have sworn brazil vs mexico was going nothing but an acting class for stuntmen everywhere.

Exactly, I'm not saying that there aren't injuries or collisions can't be painful but if you're saying that the people rolling on the ground but find the strength to jump up and run down field or the ones grabbing a body part that wasn't even hit are in actually injured then you are retarded.
They should do something simple like a required medical evaluation for those acting injured. Play man down or use a sub for those being evaluated with a two minute eval minimum or something. Not gonna happen but it would cure the faking rather quick

And my question originally was regarding FIFA and flopping, not just to complain. Is this something FIFA plans on looking into in the future or are they towing the "ain't broke don't fix it" line.
Posted on 6/17/14 at 6:47 pm to HollierThanThou
FIFA would be more than happy to study the problem if you would like to "fund" the research.
Posted on 6/17/14 at 6:50 pm to SoGaFan
I think folks who don't watch a lot of soccer sometimes underestimate how much getting kicked in the shins and ankles hurts.
Posted on 6/17/14 at 6:53 pm to HollierThanThou
There has been VERY little flopping in this tournament. As was said, you get a yellow for flopping.
