Since the F150 is the official truck of the OB I figured some of you grease monkeys could help me out.

I have an 09 F150. I switched to synthetic oil and my last oil change we used Mobil1 synthetic. My oil change sticker says my next change is due at 68k miles and I'm at 66k and some change, but my Change Oil Soon Message is displaying and showing 2% oil life left.

How accurate is the gauge on the truck? I should trust it over the sticker, correct? If so, is it more likely my truck is burning oil too fast or they screwed me only last oil change and put in shitty oil?

Sometimes if all the old oil doesn't get cleaned off the sensor it will send the warning message. I would check your oil though just to be sure.

If the light is on I'd change it.............oil changes are fairly cheap.

Most likely they just forgot to reset your "change oil alert". I'm not sure what your dash looks like, but just click through it a few times under system admin and you should see an option to reset the alert.

Well i'd def trust the computer in the truck over the sticker!

But seriously. What mileage were you at when you changed to Mobil 1? That stuff is good for a very long time. IF its your first change since you switched, then it prob won't last as long. But if you are a few changes into the Mobil 1, it should be good for 8k easy.

The oil condition sensor is not that accurate... go by mileage.

Non synthetic - 3-4K
Blend - 5-8K
Full Synthetic - 8K change filter and add quart, then another 8K.

F150 = no oil needed.

Maybe you didn't reset the oil life indicator at your last change.

why doesn't anyone have their oil analyzed anymore?

you'd be surprised how much oil life you really have...test it twice instead of an oil change for two times (if they say everything is fine)...do this twice(or more if results keep coming back good) to see what your miles are you can extend to with full synthetic...
I use Blackstone Labs for oil analysis...

get the most out of the money you spend for a synthetic oil change...

The previous owner used synthetic so I kept it on synthetic. It's a full synthetic and I'm only at 4500 miles. That's why I'm confused. I usually went about 5k miles in my old truck on conventional oil.

I'll definitely go check out the $45 dealer coupons. At $80/change I hate to change it too often.

I'm going to see what it looks like this evening when I get off. I used to change my own, but after reading about it on this truck I'll pass on that.

I know on my truck the oil change indicator uses an algorithm that analyzes your driving style...so if you reset it and drive stop & go all the time or very aggressively, it is likely to give you a notification sooner. Not sure if that's how Fords is...

Personally, I still go by mileage (every 5,000)...but I don't think the indicator is inaccurate, assuming it's reset after each change.

Disclaimer with this. Yes it is technically okay to do this. However, if you have an engine issue, the dealer will not like this. most manufactures have a certain mileage you must change by. For instance Dodge/Chrysler is usually 7500

Did you reset the notification when you changed the oil? I have forgotten to do that before and the light come on soon after.

Does it have an actual oil monitoring system or does it just monitor your driving conditions and compute a number from it to determine normal vs. severe? I have a 2010 and every time I look at my percentage, it computes a number based on 7,500 mile intervals. My guess is you had the oil changed around 58,500 and it is still calculating based on 7,500 mile intervals.

There have been cases disputing this. Max oil has performed extensive testing that has held up in court several times. If your using this method you typically are more knowledgable than the Service Manager...
