I'm not putting this on the soccer board, because I don't post there. DWI.

This ws staggering to me. I knew that the WC was obviously watched across the world, but the fact that each ball represents 1 million people is incomprehensible.

Considering the NFL is pretty muched only watched in the U.S., the viewership for the Super Bowl is more impressive.

For the World Cup to have a similar rate of viewership throughout countries where soccer is the most popular sport, there would have to be at least 2 billion viewers...

Just imagine if India ever plays China in a World Cup final.

well there's also a TV in what, probably 4 out of every 5 homes in the US? That's a random guess that I bet is close.

Not surprising at all futball is the most popular sport on the planet. Sorry if most on here don't get that. It's truly a universal sport.

And a good number of people only watch the SB because of the commercials. Not the case for the WC.

Meh. Not surprising. It is what it is. I respect if. I just hate that people say 'it's the workd's sport' when I say I'm not a fan. The fact that tons of people watch it overseas doesn't make me like it more...

There's a TV in 97 out of 100 American households. And that 3 percent without TVs includes people who watch stuff on their computers.

This and the catchphrase soccer fans like to use is "you just don't know what's going on."

I understand the rules and the objective of the game just fine, I just think the sport sucks

why do you hate it when people say this? It's the truth.

And my thread wasn't to attempt to have people say "oh wow I didn't know this, now I do like soccer!"

I never said it wasn't true...it's just an irrelevant statement when trying to get somebody to watch it.

World cup ain't no joke. I'm excited.

Also, the watch parties are great if you live in an international city. I went to one for Sweden last weekend at the Clevelander and will go to several during the WC. Doesn't matter what country. They throw down and sing and chant for hours on end.

It's really fun stuff. One watch party for one game with lots of people from both countries is more fun than a superbowl party with all the singing and craziness. And you get dozens and dozens for a month with the WC.

Not all that close. I believe the last estimate I saw was 98% of homes.

soccer is the most popular sport because you can be dirt poor and still get into it- and most of the world is poor as shite.

sorry youre poor, yuroz.

Yea but do you understand the tactics and the precision it takes to pull off some of the stuff they do? You don't have to like it, but if you don't understand those, you probably won't.

Since the WC will pull just as good as numbers in the US no its not impressive.
