First major and commercial blend of hip hop and rock and roll. A true trailblazer in modern music.

Run DMC and Aerosmith

Without "Walk This Way" I feel that our society would never been graced by God with our national treasure, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit

Probably not. License to Ill came out shortly after and I think kind of overshadowed Run DMC.

Meh, basically the lamest band of all time, they are lucky they hit it big and made some money, because they suck.

I disagree totally. I've seen Aerosmith live five times and they blew the roof off the joint every time. One of the great American rock and roll bands of all time.

And, yes, "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith and Run-DMC doesn't get enough credit.

I don´t know about this, but they were quite good up until Rocks (showing the chinks in their armor) and Night in the Ruts (where maybe only two songs are great and the others absolute shite).

After that, they did the best they could to defame themselves (yet conversely made beaucoups dinero and were more famous than ever). Amazing.

They´ve got some good songs, but as for a song which in my opinion doesn´t get it´s historical due, it´s Lord of the Thighs.

It's the damndest thing. They managed to destroy their legacy and revive/skyrocket their careers at the same time. I've seen them in concert too, and it was a snooze fest with all the power ballads they ran through.

Well considering that "Walk This Way" is the most heavily-cited work that proves Run DMC's mettle as a collective Hall of Fame inductee, and considering that the original band who recorded it was inducted as well, I'd say that the song gets its just due today (it didn't chart upon its first release but hit the top 10 on the US charts as a re-release a year later).

it gets plenty of love. That song allowed for the breakthrough of rap to white ppl.

Whether it's the original or DMC's version... I punch out the station if it comes on. There's a lot more Aerosmith I'd rather hear. A couple of months ago I revisited 'Permanent Vacation' album. I enjoy a lot of stuff on there.

Naw, that´d be De La Soul and ´Me, Myself and I´.

If anything, it gets way TOO much credit. The Clash put rap on Combat Rock, and its not like they were some obscure band. Blondie had a friggin' #1 hit with Rapture, featuring Fab Five Freddy (and Debbie Harry's horrific rapping skills). Lou Reed had a top ten hit with Walk on the Wild Side, heavily influenced by the NYC rap scene.

This is when music executives caught up and commodified it. Aerosmith, at the time, was a non-functioning band and would've done anything short of murdering a seal to get back on the radio. Run-DMC didn't even know the song. It was perhaps the least organic rock/rap hybrid song ever made. I mean, Anthrax had clearly heard and liked Public Enemy before making Bring the Noise with them.

I see Baloo has covered Blondie's "Rapture." My work here is done.
