I need to ship a bunch of boudin to my son, who is living up in Seattle this summer. What is the cheapest and best way?

I have some heavy duty gel paks, and I was thinking of just sealing up an ice chest and sending that up.

Also, should I freeze the boudin first? Seems to me that might change the flavor.

Any thoughts, OTers?

I'd just have him order it from one of the places that ships

Just have him order it online from Don's in Scott. They ship it frozen in 5 lb boxes and packed in dry ice. I do it all the time to Houston. Pretty convienant.

That seems to be the best option. Thanks. Ends up being about ten bucks a pound, but my boy is worth it.

And to the jackass from Auburn who suggested I give him up for adoption, he's a junior in high school and is up there working four jobs, making 17 bucks an hour, and clocking about sixty hours a week. Do believe I'll keep him.

I have ordered from Best Stop and Don's and they both use dry ice. Last Order was from NuNu's and they used Gel Packs. All of it arrived fine but it was pre frozen.
As far as it being frozen affecting the taste it tasted great to me. But I am from Alabama so what the hell do I know about how boudin should taste.

For boudin, I'd ship T-Boy's. They're the best links in the state.

T-Boy's

I ship gumbo, sausage, etc. out of state and I double pack in freezer bags, buy dry ice, and overnight using fedex. It's very expensive.. May cost you a hundred bucks to send 5 lbs.

Yeah, it's gonna be expensive but I've sent boudin up to the Northeast and never had a problem. They freeze it first then pack in dry ice and ship overnight. And no, IMO it doesn't affect the taste at all. When I'm in the Broussard area I stop in Billeaud's and get 10lbs for my freezer. Never noticed any difference after thawing.

Unless the "ice chest" you refer to is one of those Yeti's of equivalent, you're shipping him a package of food poisoning.

Dry ice is the only way to go. I checked into it and about the cheapest shipping charge, incluinding the dry ice, is around $50, so make sure you're sending enough to make it worth the shipping.

Probably bulk shipping. Wait for enough orders to build up so they save money? IDK.
