Sprint and T-Mobile have settled on the terms of a $32 billion deal that would further reshape the telecommunications industry, according to a person briefed on the matter.

Both sides have agreed on a set of terms that would see Sprint, which is majority owned by Japan’s Softbank, acquire T-Mobile, creating a more formidable rival to the two largest wireless phone providers in the United States, Verizon and AT&T.

Will never go through. The FCC will never let there be less than 4 carriers.

God forbid the low price carrier goes away.

Hell, AT&T recently had to slash prices and up data to keep people from fleeing to TMobile.

My bill went from $90 for 1GB to $65 for 2gbs.

Not out of the kindness of their hearts.

I've prayed from day one that the merger is blocked.

I think it will

I think you will see this go through and then they will buy DISH Network and you will have ATT/Direct and Sprint/Tmobile and DISH

Verizon will be the 3rd player

3 players is plenty, plus all the small prepaid

Most of the prepaid is owned by the big guys... They just sell service under another name.

I am in the industry and have been for 17 years. I stand by my last statement, it won't go through. They can each buy up smaller companies but I do not believe the FCC will ever allow one of the big four to be bought up. Not to mention Sprint/TMO makes no sense. They are two different types of service. Although they do both have some pretty good low and high band spectrum that they have not started using yet.

We will see but I disagree. I've been in business 10 years and most people I spoke with thing it will go through. I don't think it's as much of a slam dunk that it will turned down like you think but we will see

Sprint needs to die off. Worst customer service, worst reception, slwoest speeds.

Oh why oh why did I sign a two year contract?

Only four months of misery left.

I don't see this one getting blocked. I don't think it would have that much of an impact on the 'new' company anyways as both carriers are pretty shitty.

you obviously haven't used ATT. Sprint was light years better than ATT on all counts.

I hope this doesn't go through, I am about to flip my wife to t-mobile. I have heard really good things.

Didn't the FCC block the buyout of Tmobile by att b/c it was gonna leave att as a single GSM provider?

The FCC did block AT&T from buying T-Mobile; however, an exact reason is still a little unclear. One thing to mention on the subject is that Sprint was one of the big pushers for the FCC to block the AT&T deal.

The different technology thing can work, in fact both Sprint and Tmo went through it in the past when they purchased Nextel and MetroPCS respectively. Sprint phased out Nextel's Iden network and Tmo migrated Metro's CDMA customers to GSM.

Usually the bigger/purchasing company wins out , which would be Sprint, but with Softbank, Sprint's parent company being GSM who knows. Softbank hasn't tried to change Sprint yet so if I had to guess you would see CDMA in the end. Sprint was also very slow in getting rid of IDEN even though IDEN couldn't compete in the new market with an emphasis on data. With both on similar footing you may just see both for a while.

And Tmo has done a good job in the past year of shaking things up. Let them stick around.

Masayoshi Son has already said if this deal goes through he will bring a price war to the US like he did in Japan. Also, seems like Deutsch wants out of US market. I say let it go through and see if this shakes up the industry.

Sprint doesn't need TMobile for a price war. Thus I don't believe him for a second. They all want to remove the largest low cost carrier and get back to raping and pillaging their customers.

I would be interested to see what the Sprint 'framily' plan did to their numbers. I'm sure a lot of people jumped on that one with the chance to get extremely low cost plans.
