Getting one soon. New living room is very big so I have room

Looking at the sharps. Hear good things

Is the 240 hertz worth it or 120 fine? I hear that the 240 adds a soap opera affect and most people turn it off

You get use to the soap opera effect after a while. When you watch 120 or 60 hz afterward, it looks rudimentary.

Don't worry about the soap opera effect, it's way overblown IMO. The higher HZ you can get, the better. My Sony has 480 and has incredible picture. Once you go back to 120 after seeing higher, the picture looks incredibly choppy.

And honestly, 60 seems like the standard size now with the way prices on TVs are. My next TV will be 70 for sure.

Nah not really. I do know Sharp was the first to put out those huge size TVs, 80" etc.

I have a 46 in Sony and a 55in Vizio m series.
My sony has the best picture by far. My Vizio has 240hz and was about 1399. For the same specs for a Sony/Samsung you're looking at over 2 grand easy.

I've seen them on display in the store. It was pretty mind blowing to say the least. If you think there's HD now, this will destroy that by a wide margin.

That said, there's a tiny amount of media out there that's even shot in 4k. So even if you were an early adopter and got one now, I don't see it being incredibly worth it just yet. I'm absolutely gonna get my hands on one, but Id at least like to see if Blu rays can up converter something like that at the very least before I make the investment.

That curved Samsung 4k TV looks absolutely bananas

Have a 60 inch currently. Not at the Samsung level but a solid TV overall.

the 4ks aren't ready yet, all they are showing is a DVD loop created by the brand

realistically id say we are 3-5 years away

a guy who works for Samsung told me imagine this being 2000 and it would be like getting an HDTV then. makes sense

I just installed four video walls, each made up of 8 4K 84" panels from Planar.

I work with 4K almost every week for different purposes.

they're what I stated. 84" 4k panels. I wouldn't have done that but the customer insisted. I would have used ultra thin mullion panels of 1080p in 55", and just fed the wall the 4k windows.

Most of my stuff is in command and control environments.

Jesus that's nuts

I've heard that Netflix was actually looking into 4k streaming sometime in the future. Thatd be pretty sweet

When you're tracking a missile intercept with 4k cameras from ground, air and space, little things like debris fields are evaluated and each frame of video, each pixel, are all closely scrutinized.

Eta: 4k is already widely used in O&G, Aviation, Space Exploration, Movie Production and Military Applications. It is trickling slowly to mainstream consumer.

I think one or two of their shows is in 4k already.

The problem is that they have no idea of how to store/distribute it.

The curse of a lack of standardized compression.

Movies will run in the ballpark of 200 gigs.
