Why are so many people on anti depressants?

Never understood why this country has such a high number of depressed people. It's damn near impossible to find a woman who isn't on some sort of anti depressant medication. There's no need for it in most cases. We all have our ups and downs, shite happens. If you are unhappy,change the situation where you can be happy. Not a fan of this at all, I won't even date a woman who depends on anti depressants to feel normal.
I haven't done any reading or research on this, but I have a very strong suspicion that it's linked to laziness.

They are betas and can't deal with the problems life brings. Some people really have a chemical imbalance but the majority of people don't have those problems. It is essentially the ADD of adults.

People used to deal with problems via booze and beating the ole lady. I think they're on pills because you can't get a DWI on anti depressants.

Doctors hand out pills too often, instead of using more talk therapy. Because it's quick and easy.

Most chicks I know over 30...esp ones that are not married, are on them. I find the pills make them more of a roller coaster of instability. It sucks to meet a girl at this age you think may actually be cool only to go to her house and see prescription bottles everywhere.
