Something popped up on my fb wall yesterday that bugged me. Someone posted a link for someone asking for online donations to help pay for IVF. Reading the woman's story....she has tried 5 times already with no success. Talked about how they are facing financial problems and can't afford another round on their own. Her goal amount to be raised is 15k

If this was someone you knew.....would you donate to this?

I'd probably donate a couple of dollars.

IDK. If they can't afford treatments, how can they afford the baby?

I mean....all that money spent on round after round of IVF.....they could have put towards adopting a child.

They have been trying for 11 years.

I'd donate to help them with adoption fees.

She also has been posting about people not being supportive of her. Her fb is very much a "woe is me" collection of posts

If I wanted a baby and had 15k x 5 invested with no baby I'd be woeful as hell

I have Facebook "friends" doing this all the time since most are authors and hold tightly to the dream of being self sufficient through their writing (a dream 99% never achieve).

The only one I donated to was one author who I got to know who neglected his teeth to the point they were rotting out of his mouth and possibly affecting his jaw bone. He's the son of a famous SciFi author (which doesn't mean jack when it comes to money especially when the dad has been dead for 15 years). Anyway, he reached his goal of $8k and got the surery needed.

Just today there are ones asking for money to pay their bills so they can continue sitting home and chasing the dream. Lazy, entitled authors.

We've got enough people, no need to make more. If she was asking for cash to adopt, I'd be a lot more sympathetic.

"Popped up on my fb wall" huh?

It's ok Nurse. Lots of women like yourself that get married late in life have trouble conceiving. If you're not comfortable asking for donations, I believe there are grants that you can appy for if you donate some eggs to the govt.

Def not me. I've been very vocal on here about my personal stance on IVF.

I have nothing against people doing that. I just would never do it. If I can't conceive....I'll take it as a sign to adopt instead.

It's expensive, puts your body through hell and is not a guarantee. I don't need to be pregnant to become a mother.

I can see me and Mrs. Dunson dropping $15k for IVF if we couldn't conceive, but I wouldn't donate to others for this.

Hell no, if you can't afford the fertility treatments, you can't afford the kid.

You shouldn't have to come up with a lump sum of 15k until high school tuition is due
