Hawthorne has a bad call for the biggest play of the game. But what's new? We've heard this before for his 1996 and 2009 last play of the CWS and Bluegrass Miracle calls.

Anyone else listening to the radio call of the game?

Like any other long fly ball call by him you didn't know if it was going to be caught or go over the fence. The crowd was loud and you couldn't hear him. He said it was a homerun about as quietly as possible.. waited a few seconds. Then shouted home run.

98.1 actually completely cut out for me. I had no idea what was going on.

I was more concerned about LSU winning the game and SEC Championship and securing a Super Regional....than critiquing the radio announcer.

The people who have to rely on hearing the game care, obviously.

If the guy can't effectively communicate the action, there is a problem.

It wasn't clear it would clear...it got lost with the wall if looking from home plate. I was watching it on tv and wasn't sure it was a HR....and me responding to this is probably as lame as U starting this useless thread.

I don't think he knew it was a homerun because of the double fence or something stupid like that. Because for the rest of the inning he talked about the double layer of fence.

Not sure what game you watched. That ball was way out.

You wasn't sure it was a home run? It hit off the backdrop, it wasn't a wall scraper...you sound like an idiot

You've got to give him a break on these home run calls.

Most of this year and last year (especially in Omaha), the Tigers have absolutely CRUSHED the ball, only to have it be a lazy fly ball or 400' easy out at the warning track.

With these bats and balls, there is no reason to get excited about a fly ball or assume it is going to be a home run until it actually goes out of the park. NONE.

It was out but double fence was confusing.

...and U 2 had the advantage of watching it with a camera focused...I caught the play after it was hit as I glanced at the tv and wasn't quite sure it was out with the double wall---sure on replay it was clear....point being, I could understand the hesitation of calling it live---don't be a dik--this post started as a bitch of JH not calling the HR right away
