HIV or cancer

Now this is a tricky situation. HIV or cancer?

HIV, if properly treated, will result in only a few years lost off of one's life expectancy (though I imagine this use of HIV does not have the same effects as the buttsecks kind), while cancer is much more of a gambit.

HIV seems preferable when faced with something untreatable like pancreatic cancer

Its quite easy to deactivate the HIV virus so that only the backbone remains. Its a great way to transfect human cells to express genes of interest.

You didn't read the article, did you? They remove the part of the HIV virus that causes infection in humans before injecting it into the patient. This isn't causing cancer patients to become infected with HIV.

Of course. I'm not sure where you can get it, though. Maybe try craigslist.

They're also using measles to cure cancer. Promising stuff. Just hope you can make it another 10 years since that's how long it takes before this stuff comes mass market.

Very old. Not really that new or ground breaking...

And you don't get HIV from these treatments. They just use the HIV as a vector to deliver genes to extracted T Cells, grow the T cells, and then inject those into the patient.

This type of therapy is not new. I work with many people who pioneered this work and are performing similar clinical trials in pediatric and adult patients.

This article and your response is just another example of the reactionary, hyperbole-loving, scientifically-ignorant culture we live in today.

I don't know that I like the idea of purposely infecting people with a communicable disease.

ETA: I should probably read the article...
