F150 5.4L cam phaser and timing belt issues

Have an 07 f150 with the 5.4 liter. Its been making a pinging noise and the check engine light came on. I had it looked at and was told the timing belt and cam phasers were going out based the codes that were read. Seems like this is common with this moto. Anybody have experience with this and did that fix the problem changing these parts out or am I looking at more problems down the road.

Buddy of mine had the pinging issue and cost him 4K to get it fixed. Think he needed a new camshaft along with other stuff. Problem is it started pinging again after about 3 years. He traded it as soon as it started doing it again.
There can be a host of issues related to the pinging for what I understand. One being a build of carbon buildup in the cylinder which causes pre-detonation before the cylinder reaches top dead center.

Those trucks don't have timing belts. Might want to get a second opinion on those codes.

Had a similar issue about month ago. Difference was my light never came on. Brought it to a mechanic and had him look at it, ended up being too expensive to repair, so I traded it in before the light came on. Was an '07 with 132k miles on it.

Does it smoke a bit on cold starts?

Best fix is a lock kit for the phasers along with an aftermarket tune. Can also buy the needed parts and fix it yourself. What oil and filter are you running?

Why trade it off when there are reasonable solutions. Sure as hell won't save money that way.

No doubt.
If that 5.4 is the same as the one I had in my '06, I'm just not a fan in general.

May have typed the wrong thing on the timing belt. Will have to consult my paperwork from the dealer. I have heard that even if fixed can still do it again. It has 134,000 miles, might be time to let it go.

Depends. Lot of them are screwed by using the wrong oil and low quality filters. Can get kits that lock the cam phasers which is a permanent solution but you have to get a tune so the computer knows nothing is wrong.

Clames is right. replace chain, tensioners and guides. buy lockout kit, have tuned.
I do fleet maintnqnce for a company w 9 of these trucks l,all over 250,000 miles. no probs other than pm.
Only use 5-20 motorcraft oil and filter and you'll never have a problem

Any estimate on cost to do that?

Cam phasers is what I was told was making my '04 w/ the 5.4 have a ticking sound as it runs
