Passing through today for some good BBQ on a road trip. The town seems to be legendary. Any recommendations? Was looking at Black's.

Thanks.

Black's is the bomb. There is another great place there but the name escapes me at the moment.

I don't have to tell you that Franklins in Austin is the king. 6 hour conga line

I would recommend going a little further down road to Luling and hitting up City Market. Best in the area, imho

Kreuz

City Market is only good for their sausage...their brisket is meh, at best

I prefer Smittys but I won't pass on any one of them.

I'll say this, try the shoulder clod because you won't find it cooked anywhere else or at least I've never seen it anywhere else. Smitty's also has great pork ribs. They are very big and thick and don't get near the attention they should.

And go to Chisholm Trail and get a chopped beef sandwich. Great stuff.

Blacks is the best in Lockhart. Get the moist brisket and the ribs. Very good.

As much as I travel to Austin, I can't bring myself to wait in this line.

Mueller's does the trick for me, each and every time.

Smittys is my favorite.....Once I hit all three in one day...Smittys, Kreuz, and City Market. I was hurting, but it was a good pain.

No, I agree. Vendors bring it in from time to time so I've been able to try it without tailgating for 5 hours.

Too many other places to eat here that don't require that kind of time investment.

Well Aaron Franklin started out working for John Mueller and bought his pit when he went belly a few years ago.

Man, I dont know how you did that. I went to kreuz and felt so sick, yet incredible after. Kind of like that feeling when you eat a whole bag of cracklins at once. I think it's all that fatty crispiness.

To the OP, city market in luling is where the real treasure is at.

Buddy that was driving really wanted Blacks so that's where we went. So much food...

Had baby back ribs, brisket, beef rib, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Incredible. The brisket was the best I've ever had. Extremely moist and flavorful. Beef rib was great and unique - first time I've had one.

I've been to Arthur Bryant's in KC, Neelys, and Pappys in St. Louis so this was another one to add to the list.

I'll need to make it back to try the other two places. Thanks for all the suggestions.
