I posted on the OT, but thought maybe I could get help here also. I priced a 10x10 shed today for $2800. That is more than I want to spend. Has anyone here built their own shed and where could I find some quality plans?

You'll spend that much in materials

10x10 is tiny, I would suggest going bigger, probably as big as you can fit in the area. You will be amazed at how fast you will fill up a 10x10

This is going in my backyard in a subdivision. I would be surprised if I spent $2800 in materials.

The problem with my neighborhood is if I want a utility shed in the backyard it has to be the same materials (brick, roof shingles) as my house.

Did I mention how much I hate neighborhoods

I don't think so. Of course, depends on the materials you use. Just a basic shed shouldn't cost that much for that size. Don't ask me to estimate though.

Wood or metal? Wood should be pretty cheap and easy. Some 2x4s and plywood for the roof and walls. Shingles. Maybe some siding if you want to.

Slab or pier and beam? Be aware that permits and inspections may require you to pour concrete footings if you pier and beam. I know they do in Shreveport. Also they may require a minimum of a 5' easement from any fence or the house. That may be over a certain square footage.

I'm in the process of building one as well. My dad was a master carpenter by trade so we don't have any plans

I got lucky and my hoa does not require the shed to have the same "look" as the house due to being in a privacy enclosed backyard.

This is also very solid advice.

Much like a gun safe, figure out how big of one you need, then go one size bigger. You'll be glad you did.

If you can wait a few hours, I'll upload a bunch of shite about sheds to DropBox. Gotta run some errands right now.

Sometimes the easement is more in the front/ back than the sides. My hood is 5' from side fence, and 10' from the back. Call planning comsih and check before you start.

built one last year. 20x20 with a roll up door and a regular door and window, power and water with a slab. did all the labor myself with pops. came up to a little over $3,500 with materials.

everyone else in our hood has those ratchet looking lowes sheds. now all the men regret getting them and come hang out in mine. didnt have the HOA contact me yet.

Only if you are going Cadillac on it. I built an 8 X 10 for $800 and that was with premium lumber.

I've been looking into build a shed as well, same neiborhood rules.

I dont think a 10x10 makes sense, you're going to be wasting siding if thats what you're using. Go 8x8, 8x12, or 12x12.

I calculated about $600 for an 8X8 using siding and shingles, with a 4" slab. So probably $700-$800 for something a little bigger.

I built a 10x10, with a 10x10 lean-to off the side for a little over half of that I think. That's with a metal roof, 2x6' floor joists, 3/4" plywood floor, 1/2" walls, and before shelves and such.

OP, better check your HOA before planning anything. Sucks living in a hood.
