Why is James Franco considered a good actor?

I have to admit I thought he was incredibly stiff and wooden in Spiderman. I was shocked by how funny he was in Pineapple Express but I don't know how much of that was acting and how much was him just being him.

I don't think he's considered a great actor by anyone. Can't say he's not talented, he has his hand in everything

Him in This Is The End and Pineapple Express just get me rolling every time.
He's done a few other decent roles, i'd consider him a good actor but maybe only cause I certainly don't consider him bad.

As stated many times, not like I see people praising his acting skills....ever.
I think he is good enough with some skills. Also seems like he has no problem poking fun at himself from time to time.

Franco did get an Oscar nom for 127 Hours but I couldn't force myself to watch that one. A bit too claustrophobic for that movie.

Very good in Freaks and Geeks, that James Dean movie from years ago, nominated for an Oscar in 127 hours, very solid in City by the Sea with DeNiro, etc.

Never heard his acting talent lauded much, but he's likeable and doesn't get hate either. Jonah and Rudd aside, my favorite role of his and usual Apatow suspects is them playing themselves-and admitting it in This is the End.
