Rocks: per drink 2oz herradura reposado; 1 oz contrieu; 1 oz lime juice; 1oz simple syrup; splash of orange juice.

Frozen: same mixture as above. Add ice, strawberries and a few cranks of sea salt to blender.

Simple is better. Use a good tequila and orange liqueur and all will be good.

If you are making frozen Margaritas, instead of using ice, use frozen watermelon cubes.

Try it you'll like it.

2 parts tequila, one part lime juice, one part Cointreau, little squeeze of agave syrup. Of the rocks in a glass with a salted rim... Delicious!

I've had good luck with these ratios:
Vesion 1

2 oz lime juice
1.5 oz tequila reposado
1.5 oz agave nectar

Version 2

1.5 oz tequila reposado
1.5 oz lime juice
1.5 oz agave nectar
0.5 oz Grand Marnier

Version 3

1.5 oz tequila reposado
1.5 oz lime juice
1 oz agave nectar
0.75 oz St. Germain
0.75 oz lemon juice

I don't know by ounces, but here is my mix that is killer every time. I do make my own sweet/sour syrup by using 2cups sugar, 2 cups water, 1 cup each lemon and lime juice.

Fill glass with ice, then:

Tequilla (I use Tres Agaves mmmmmm) - half the glass (yes, you read that right)
Cointreau - about 1/3 the way from the tequila
SweetSour - another 3rd
Lime juice - about a tsp
Agave Syrup - same as lime juice
Water - fill the rest (a little less than a third)

I have had numerous people, including friends who run bars, tell me that this is their favorite. The key is the tequilla; you need to use a lot. A good one has tremendous flavor, and you want it to shine along with the citrus. I find most marg recipes are too limey, sweet or both. This has a perfect blend of it all without any one overpowering. Without the water added at the end though, it can be a bit sweet still. Shaking will melt some ice, but I find the water is still needed.

Frozen - do the same mixture, but leave out the water. The blended ice will dilute the flavor enough and you don't want to overdue it.

ETA: I have experimented with many mixtures, some good some not so much. I used to make the "original" margarita, which calls for powdered sugar. I don't remember the ratios, but it was the following ingredients:

Tequila
Lime juice
Cointreau
powdered sugar
ice

It is quite tasty, but it can be a bit sweet. I suggest trying it out for something a bit different. I love it and still do it on occasion
