Go read nakedwhiz website. He has basically tested every lump charcoal there is. And royal oak tested really well.

Some people like FOGO which changes price pretty regularly on amazon.

I'm wondering myself. I'm interest to know what other lump the OP is seeking.

I've used fire king, which burns very very good, but it's no near worth double the price of RO. I light my egg at least 3 times a week so $20 bags of lump would get pricey in a hurry

Works well for me too. Can get really hot for steaks and can also go cooler for smoking. Price:Quality ratio is really good.

Wicked Good is good stuff. I'll buy it when I find a good deal on it. But for my money, Royal Oak is the way to go. Ozark Oak is pretty good too.

I know I might get some flack, but in my kettle I really like the Kingsford Competition Charcoal.

I can regularly find it on sale for around $17 dollars for 2 18lb bags at Costco.

I like the uniform shape and burn. Plus it burns hotter and without all the chemicals in the regular blue bag

Otherwise I use royal oak.

Well I guess I'll take a hit too because I use the one in the blue bag with the chemicals. I gave up lump a long time ago. I don't like the taste. I also haven't had a gasket on mine for about three years. It works fine and it works at least twice a week and this time of year three even four time. Sometime I light it just to smell it.

Royal Oak is the best I've found and I've tried about 8 different brands. It has larger chunks and fewer small pieces and less "dust" that clogs your air holes.
