Yes

I sort of wish I did. I don't know anyone with an interesting disorder.

I have a friend that lives in a nice house. Great family. Present themselves with class. Have plenty money. Kind people all around. And their house is a fricking wreck. It baffles me. Guess that's how they were raised.

See it all the time in my line of work. Recently had a client who bought land, had house on it for 60 years, no sewage or septic. Family let one degenerate kid live there with son, was absolutely vile inside. Had to drag him out at closing, tore the house down the next day

I don't personally know any hoarders, but when I was in college 20+ years ago, I delivered pizzas. There was one regular customer whose house was sickening. The first time I delivered to her, she asked me to step inside while she wrote the check. It was absolutely disgusting. Garbage was piled 8 feet deep, and the house reeked of pet urine and feces. She ordered pizzas probably twice a week, and I know I delivered dozens of them, but that was the only time I ever crossed the threshold.

I hired a new dental assistant a few years ago on a friends reccomendation. She had a great attitude but was messy as shite. She also had a 6 month old son.

One morning I pulled into my parking spot and she was parked next to my car. When I got of my car I happened to look into her car and I was amazed at how disgusting it was. Numerous fast food bags, cups and french fries lined every surface in the car. There was also a half dozen or so partially consumed baby bottles with spoiled milk in them. She did have a properly strapped car seat though.

When I walked in to the office the first thing I did was ask the assistant if she was clocked in, which she was. Then I had her go out and clean her car on my time! After she was done, I had a little discussion with her about how awful it was that she forced her child to ride in that filth and that she needed to clean up her act.

I can only wonder what her home looked like.

my line of work brings me into people's homes on occasion...I am constantly amazed about how many folks live in filth...

I am not talking about necessarily only folks who can't afford to do better...there are many, many half million dollar homes out there that are flat fricking nasty inside...

My drug addict brother lived in the streets for over a year sleeping in cemetery's. He got help, cleaned up and now he is back on heroin somewhere in Arkansas last I heard.

As a Probation and Parole Officer, I've seen everything that you can possibly imagine. I recall going into a mobile home and seeing the walls moving. I let my eyes adjust and it was hundreds of cock roaches all over the place. Yes, of course, they had a bunch of small children living there.

The first thing I do every day when I get home from work is to take a shower.

When I did a ton of home health I'd see it all the time. It's amazing how a pretty large chunk of our populace lives.

I must admit I'm not too proud of how my house looks at the moment... crayons, books, legos, papers, stickers, and diapers (clean ones) on the floors, gift bags and a partially unpacked suitcase on the couch, sink full of dishes, hamper full of dirty laundry (and a dryer full of clean laundry), kitchen counters cluttered, dirty stove, and probably a full trash bag.

But I guess I have a valid enough excuse having a toddler and a newborn and a wife recovering from a C section.

EDIT: definitely have never let it get so bad that we had a roach or other pest problem though.

When I was seven, our next door neighbors had what I thought was the most disgusting house I had ever seen. They always had food all over the place, including ground up into the couches, and the kids' shite (crayons, video game controllers, etc.) was always strewn all around the house. Their minivan always smelled like stale McDonalds french fries, and it was never safe to sit anywhere because you would find bits of food smashed up in every part of the van.

A few years later I found out that one of the kids my age who lived on a neighboring street had it much worse. You would never think it from seeing the kid or the parents -- seemed very clean, very put-together, very middle class, and both parents coached soccer -- but their house was a fricking disaster. Every inch of the floor was covered with random shite, the animals would use the bathroom wherever they felt like, you couldn't even walk around. I went in there once and never returned.
