Anybody have any success stories emailing around dealerships for quotes on new cars?

It seems like it's too good to be true. What's the catch?

catch is they tell you anything just to get you in the store, that's when they handcuff you and CLOSE ON YOUR arse.

I e-mailed 5 different dealerships the same e-mail when I was looking for my truck. Each time 1 would sent me a quote, I would forward it to the others to see if they would beat it.

I feel like I got a good deal this way. Also did all my pre paperwork through e-mail. I was at the dealership maybe 10 minutes when I picked up my truck.

My mom bought my dad's truck by emailing dealerships and getting the best price.

I've emailed 3 dealerships and 2 have responded in 5 minutes. Neither has called me. Seems too good to be true

It's the best way to buy a car. The Internet departments in most dealerships work off volume not margin.

I did the same thing. Emailed about 10 dealers for the car I was looking for, if they wouldnt negotiate online then took them off the list. Sent qoutes around to see who could beat it.

Had details ironed out before going to the dealership. Car was sitting there waiting to go. Took about 20 minutes to sign the paperwork and was out the door. You reach a point where they cant lower the price of the car to much and they offer other free stuff to seal the deal.

Seems to me like every car sales guy would like to be the internet sales guy because they are pulling the volume right now in the dealership.

That's what I read on the internet so I didn't believe it.

I have no idea what I'm doing. I feel like I'm gonna get raped

Id go to the dealer on a Sunday find the car you want and right down the stock number. That way you know exactly what car you are dealing on.

I did with all 3 that I emailed. Stock number included in the email.

I got a good deal after getting high balled with an above sticker price quote. I replied with a "Seriously?" tone stating that that was way above the prices I was getting from other dealerships, which was true, and the next reply was actually a good price which I pretty quickly accepted. I'm no expert but the things they always say seem to be true

1 - Be interested in a car they actually have on the lot
2 - Shop around and know what a fair price is
3 - Be ready to walk away

My experience is that it is a must for new car shopping, and is so-so when shopping for used cars.

I am in sales at a dealer in Lafayette. Best deal is to actually walk into a dealership. Quotes online often leave out many fees, and destination charges.

This is the exact reason we (as salesmen) weren't allowed/got our arse chewed if we gave out any prices over the phone.

So if I give them the information they ask for when I've requested an "out the door" quote, they're still going to leave fees and shite off?

A lot of places wont but if they don't they are losing my business 100% so they might as well.
