Wasn't the most cooperative on mobile, but I read it.

I ate there Monday and it was great. It is a really unique dining experience. I think the review is spot on.

Some might worry that dinner at Square Root would be an ordeal. The experience does require a culinary open-mindedness and a surrender of volition to chef Lopez, but that's true of any tasting menu.

Thanks for the patronizing common sense, Todd.

It sounds like an overwhelming amount of food and alcohol, but the evening left me neither stuffed nor stumbling.

Yikes. Hope he wasn't still hungry after he left.

The price might be off-putting to some, but the experience was relaxed rather than pretentious.

I'm curious if Todd paid for this himself.

Also, this sentence seems to imply that expensive = ostentatious.

And how was it "relaxed?" What was the atmosphere like? Would enjoy if he had gone into more detail rather than using un-expounded upon adjectives.

Of course he didn't.

This is just one of those reviews to get the buzz going. The only useful thing in the review is the pictures.

Another review that doesn't really describe the atmosphere but does go through the courses.

I'm not all that impressed yet. Well, I take that back. I'm impressed but just not enough to make me want to go.

Ah, didn't scroll through them. Will take a look.

Thanks for the other link, wink. Will read that one too.

I noticed on open table that there were reservations abound. If this is indeed going to work out, I would have expected them to be booked for weeks, especially at the onset.

Yeah, one would expect that too but I think you have to be pretty tuned into the food/restaurant scene in New Orleans to know about it. People have known it has been in the works for a while but it's actual opening date wasn't known very far in advance. I think it was what, last week, when they announced it? There hasn't been a whole lot of pub lately to get the general public involved and aware of it.

Check back in a few months and see how they are booking then.

This review was much more in-depth.

I'm ready to try it. I wonder how long an entire dinner service lasts? Sounds like the wine/drink pairing isn't the best value. This review mentioned it was the equivalent of 1 bottle.

I wouldnt call that a review, more like a preview. TP is very particular about what a review is and they come from Brett.

It was a dry run, so no one in there that night paid for their meal. Its pretty common thing, restaurants do R2R.

It sounds good. But, even with the non-wine drink option, it will set me back close to $400 for my fiance and I. Sorry - I'm not an OT baller that can throw that kind of money on a meal.

Same here. If and when I go I'm gonna fly solo or with a friend whom I don't have to pay for.

She's already stated to me that she has no interest in spending our money there.

This is going to sound insane, but as far as elaborate multi course tasting menus, $150 (inclusive of tax and tip, mind you) a person is not bad. I know the feeling Todd mentions, its being satiated and satisfied with food and drink but not overstuffed like you just left Boomtown buffet.

As an aside, the beverage pairings at most tasting menus are sort of a novelty. I've always had better luck just picking a bottle or two off the list and drinking it, not worrying about whether it cuts through the acid of the tomato foam or picks up the lavender in the stock. Sometimes beverage pairings get too cute by half.
