The food at FQF has become somewhat boring IMO. Every year it's the same old dish at the same old booth. Does anyone else feel this way? I think the newer events like Hogs & Po Fest where booths are competitive and more creative have spoiled me. I do still love FQF and it's a great time.

Best thing I ate was the grilled chicken livers with pepper jelly.

And why the event organizers continue to put the booth with the longest line in Jackson Sq each year is beyond me.

RIP Vietnamese stuffed chicken wing

I didn't get to try as much as I would have liked, although I still tried a ton.
Love at First Bite's Cochoun de Lait poboy was really good to me.
So was Boucherie's 12 hr brisket poboy.

I figured you'd say the bread pudding.

I was actually a little disappointed with it. It was good, but not what I had heard people make it to be.

starting to.

Also, had two kids with us, One wanted Seafood Gumbo the other redbeans.

After going to the information booth, I find that the only gumbo option is a Duck gumbo and no one had red beans.

I found that surprising. So we went to the French Market and got those. Waited 25 minutes for the slow people to get them out, but it was passable.

I messed up and started with two po-boys which slowed down my eating.

I did like the nutella and bacon crepe, I always get the crawfish crepe from Muriel's too.
This year I had the Buffalo Shrimp poboy, the Turtle Soup, the Japanese Beef poboy from Ninja, crawfish, shrimp cakes and a snowball.

I liked the 21 stages this year. Had a good spot for the Hot 8 brass band.

I've noticed this also. Some of the booths seem to have dialed down their creativity to pump out more volume since the fest keeps growing every year. Hogs did suprise me with how good some of the food was. It was my first time at Hogs.

Best thing I had was the goat cheese and crawfish crepes by Muriel's. Had a few other things that were so-so.

FQF is big tourist event. I don't think they want to get too ambitious with the offerings.

I'll eat the same things every year just to keep something in my stomach while boozing.

I think the best concentration of food is in Jackson square so I'll usually just load up there. BBQ shrimp from Dickie Brennan's is the best dish out there IMO. Muriel's crepe and the eggplant dressing was good as always. Meat and crawfish pies from Ms Wheat are great. Sausage Po boy from vaucresson, baked Alaska... All consistently good.

I couldn't imagine eating gumbo or red beans out there in that heat

I didn't eat much because I got full too fast. The only things I got were the cochoun de lait poboy from Love at First Bite, and the crawfish and goat cheese crepes from Muriel's. Both were delicious. I also tasted a bite of someones jerk chicken from Bennachin. It was just o.k.

They were already cooked, wrapped and sitting in a bucket. Mine was cold and way too fishy.

Surpisingly the boudin poboy from Rouses was damn good.

Those are the only things I tried. Wasn't out there for the food. Just needed something in my stomach.
