That seems to be the narrative, as set forth by most liberals and minorities. We currently have a thread on here discussing political correctness, for example, and more than one poster has asserted that white angst aimed at political correctness is all about "us" no longer feeling comfortable about being able to use our favorite racist terms. You know, like ni@@er, f@g, etc.

So, what's the truth here? Is racism a malady which only afflicts white people? Or, are members of every ethnic group, race, etc, just as susceptible to displaying racist tendencies?

I mean, the assertion that racism is only a "white thing" seems to get thrown around a lot on here, so we might as well get some folks' true beliefs on the record. By all means, please weigh in and state your case regarding this matter.

here are the rules:
1. blacks can't be racist
2. women can't be sexist
3. gays can make fun of heterosexuals but not the other way around
4. Muslims can be as hateful as they want and get away with it.
5. Christians are always wrong
6. Basically all white, heterosexual, christian males should be loaded up into train cars (electric trains to protect mother earth of course)and taken to camps to work until they die (like stalin would want).

Not necessarily all white people. Probably just white conservatives.

Seems like it's thrown around more in posts like yours. What do you think the answer is?

First off, everyone can be prejudice. They can make decisions based on preconcieved notions of someone by an identifying characteristic. This applies to blacks, whites, gays, women, etc.

And almost everyone has prejudices.

For prejudice to become racism, the person, party or group applying these must be in power to apply their prejudices. So as far as non white people have power, they are racist. For instance in south africa, the blacks have the power so there can be racism against whites.

In the US, if you believe that blacks are in control of major institutions, then yes they can be racist.

It seems a most people have never heard blacks denigrate other blacks because they are "too dark". Have any of you heard of 'paper bag parties'?

Grow up, everyone is a racist by popular definition.

I've hear the "power theory" before and I think it's absolutely ludicrous.

As far as prejudice vs. racism, I believe you're splitting hairs here.

social progressives have changed what "Racism" is to only be a tool available to the majority (or affluent, depending on whether a non-black person is being racist). it's bunk in my eyes. i define racism as judging a person solely on the color of his/her skin

yeah, I've never understood the whole notion that minorities can't be racist because they don't have any power. Ironically, the person I ever heard espousing that line of thought was Spike Lee. Spike Lee is a multi-millionaire, high-profile filmmaker, who probably has more money and influence than 99% of the rest of the population, so that never passed muster with me.

Besides, either a person harbors ill-will in their hearts for others based on race, or they don't. I don't know why a bigot should get a pass simply because they aren't part of the majority population.

You write this as if you doubt "that blacks are in control of major institutions." Both the President and the Attorney General are black. There is no "if you believe".

In the Danny Thomas Show a punk, hip, teen musician told Danny Thomas to, "Blast Off Daddy-O." Insensitive comments directed toward adults is inexcusable.

A person of any color can be racist.

But white people are the only ones who will catch shite for it.

First, I'd like to point out that it is other white people that extract the price on those that "offend". There are not enough black folks to do anything significant about the "whines and hurt feelings" that are LOUDLY bleated. It takes the strength of the numbers of the 'concerned' to extract any price.

Having said THAT:

1) I am sure that it is annoying to belong to a group that seems to need to walk on eggshells. I mean that sincerely.

BUT...

2) It is no picnic being a member of a group that is seen to be so infantile that they need the "help" of paternalistic bleeding heart asshats. The soft bigotry of low expectations is as annoying as the eggshelled path.

We are all in a hell of or own countrymen's making.
