during the regular season

UConn losing 80-something to 40-something against Louisville to end the regular season has to be one of the more lopsided losses for a national champion

Can anyone else think of other good examples

Eta: can include a conference tourney/championship loss as well

Eta2: include nfl as well

And this is not taking away anything from UCONN or any other NCs. Great job by then to turn it around in the big tournament and win the games that mattered most

Pro or college?

College football is the only sport where losing in the regular season actually matters.

Bama 2011. Got out scored by 50% in the regular season against LSU.

Wasn't it 01 Nebraska that got their arse beat in the Big 12 CG?

They didn't win their division. Colorado raped them the last week of the regular season.

But like Oklahoma in 03 they didn't win the national title. Obviously.

LSU got thoroughly dominated by Florida in 2003 before going on to win the national title.

It was only 19-7, but LSU only scored on a punt return.

Miami lost to Florida 28-3 to open the 1983 season and went on to win the national championship.

1974 USC lost in the first game to Arkansas 22-7...for the 70's - that's somewhat of a blowout.

And won the national title.

And 1978 USC lost 20-7 to ASU and won the outright national title.

Not college, but the 03 Patriots lost their opening game 31-0 to the Buffalo Bills. Proceeded to go 14-2 and win the SB.

yeah, the Giants looked like they were in free fall mode in November of 2011. That included an arse beating on Monday Night Football to the Saints 49-24.

but they ended up only losing one game in their last four regular season games to win their division.

And then everything just fell into place for them after that in the playoffs.
