Looking to buy a new one bc my light bulb went out. frick that.

Anyway. My wife is debating on the French door style or the kind with the freezer on the bottom. I told her I would think about it and give her input so here we are. What do you have and why should(n't) I get that?

French door is the best. You can fit a ton more because you can stack stuff. I recently got one and it's worth the $$.

I gots me a kenmore elite French door style but not with the bottom deal. Freezer on the left, fridge on the right.

The freezer isn't as big but that was ok with me because I keep a deep freeze in the garage for all the wild life I murder

I saw some at lowes where the ice maker was built into the door so there was all that extra space for freezer room. Thought that wa cool.

We got a Samsung that's a consumer Reports top pick, French door, ice maker in freezer, water dispenser inside the fridge, with water filter. We've liked it a lot. Over the years we've had tons of problems with in door icemakers. No more of that nonsense.

Best advice is to hit the Consumer Reports web site and do your research. Buy a one month subscription.

the french door configuration is ok...I really don't see a lot of difference in space or useability versus the side-by-side models...

the ice maker is an issue, though...you can't really put it in the bottom freezer and if you put it anywhere else, the capacity is very limited versus what you are used to...basically, if you need to fill more than a few glasses at once, you don't have enough ice...

As long as the beer is cold I don't really care what it looks like.

From all my dealings in appliance, I know only one rule. Save for the super brands like Sub-Zero and Viking. The cheaper the unit, the more reliable it will be.

That goes with all appliances.

What's the budget?

We have French door but the freezer side is the same size as the fridge side.

Get her whatever she wants.
Serious.

The last two the wife bought have been that type, FWIW.
