My nominees:

1986 Providence: unleashed The Plague on college basketball--coach Rick Pitino and point guard Billy Donovan

1985 Villanova: I was a Georgetown fan. Villanova literally played a perfect game and still barely beat them. And then the Gary McClain cocaine story came out

1987 Indiana: LSU was 4 minutes away from a Final Four in New Orleans. Bobby Knight banged the desk so hard the phone fell off of it and he didn't get a technical

1991 Duke: Spoiled UNLV's dream season

1998 Kentucky: I thought Utah had it. Rick Majerus was great.

The Duke team that beat Kentucky on the Laettner's shot (92?).

The LSU team that showed up at the Final Four in 2006. That team got way too caught up in the hype the week between the regional finals and the Final Four. Brady was even benching Tyrus Thomas for some reason.

Yep.

I still cringe when I see Thomas Hill crying like the little bitch he was.

Not only did they beat LSU, but that form of basketball is just boring to me.

Reminds me of their baseball team last year.

Aw Hell, I'm gonna throw 1985 LSU up there. Won the SEC and then got OBLITERATED in the first round by (a then unknown) David Robinson and 13-seed Navy.

I like Cinderella, but holy crap, do people actually REMEMBER 83 NCSU and 85 Villanova? Those teams are the reason why we now have a shot clock. Their games were brutal, ugly slogs in which they simply refused to run their offense, sometimes for a minute at a time. And Valvano was the ultimate practitioner of "extending the game" by intentionally fouling en masse in a close game. Just unwatchable basketball.

And screw every Duke team ever, but especially 2001 and 1992. Loathsome teams that I can't believe actually have fans. The only good thing about the 2001 team is Elton Brand's kiss off to a snotty Duke alum who questioned his decision to turn pro.

The three I hated were

1995 Mizzou, they just had to foul Edney and UCLA is done. But Norm and company went into I still cant explain it.

1995 UCLA because they all hought it was the making of a new dynasty, but Bailey, O'Bannon, and crew were basically never heard from again. They got lucky to win that thing.

The 2010 UConn team Kemba Walker misses that shot in NYC they arent even in the damn thing.

Dishonorable Mention

1986 Duke, Allerie, Bilas, Ammaker, etc. People thought they were greatest team ever and when they beat KU in Dallas they just knew they would beat Louisville.

The Mississippi State team that bent the eligibilty rules in 96? How the hell can a guy be enrolled at 2 Juco's and Miss Stake in Summer to pass 20 hours?

Not really. It was Robinson and 4 scrubs vs. one of Dale Brown's 3 to 5 best teams (regular season) and they got destroyed. Not beat. Destroyed by 23 points.

If they beat us by 5 it would have been okay, but they embarrassed us. I still remember watching that game in my high school cafeteria in complete disbelief.

I'm biased toward NC State, but I agree. But the real problem was Dean Smith. Dude had Jordan, Worthy and Perkins and he was running Four Corners with 10 minutes left in the game.
