After finishing the Virginia Beach’s Shamrock Half Marathon on Sunday with a friend, Cameron said she felt faint and collapsed about 50 yards from the finish line. She was treated at first aid tent near the finish line before being rushed to a local hospital, but doctors were unable to revive her, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

The high school sophomore was on her school's swimming and softball teams, and had trained for nine weeks for the race, which she completed in two hours, 19 minutes.

I've recently started training for a half. I've run several 5K's, but my goal is to be able to do a half by January 2015. I'm going slow, adding .10's to my distance very gradually. I'm hoping to maybe add a mile every month and a half until then.

But seeing stuff like this scares the shite out of me.

Am I going to die?

Doesn't seem like a long time- but I am not a distance runner.

Yes, eventually, but probably not from running the marathon.

Of course you are, but probably not during your half marathon.

Obviously don't know the full story or her medical history. However, this sounds like some kind of heart defect. That can happen to anyone at anytime.

I dont think distance running is healthy. A couple miles is one thing but tge human body wasnt designed for this marathon shite.

There had to be some underlying condition. She was more than ready with 9 weeks of training, being on swim team and softball. I trained for about 2 weeks before my first half, and I felt fine.

Because Weather.com is now basically Faces of Death and inaccurate 10-day forecasts.

The same reason Honey Boo Boo is on "The Learning Channel."

You hear these stories all of the time about someone in great shape dying because they had an enlarged heart or other defect.

Is there a way to check if you have a heart defect (such as an enlarged heart) or would that require surgery and isn't very feasible.
