The Browns may offer, but we could make it less likely with a 1 year deal. He may demand too much
He graded out at +17.8 for last season

Alex Mack’s agents believe that an offer sheet for the transition-tagged center can be crafted that the Browns won’t match. Alex Mack’s agents have yet to find any takers, even though getting Mack would entail no compensation to Cleveland.

...will be costly, and no way the Browns don't match, imo.
He's awesome though, and I would love to have him.
...and stop trying to take away the Browns first solid team/playoff opportunity in a long time

He would be dumb not to sign his $10 million tender.
He is set to make like twice as much as the #2 Center in the league.

Yea, I don't think we would have the cap space. Too much money for a position that you can get in the later rounds of the draft

We have Lorig. Why is this even a question?

He's a brick wall.. I'd love to have him. Will definitely be costly tho, and probably not a smart idea with teams compiling offers for JG80.
Then again, we did sign Byrd to 6 years 54 mil, Strief to 20.5 mil and extended PT23 2 more seasons.
Make it happen Loomis!

Not going to happen, but how awesome would the middle of our line be with him.

Saints appear likely to draft a mid-round center to compete for the job with Lelito.

FIFY. And the answer is "no".

I do not understand why we're treating the most important position on our Oline as unimportant.
Brees is useless w/pressure up the middle. You can pay graham a shite-ton of money, but if your blue-light special center keeps caving and Brees gets pressured regularly, he'll never see the ball and youve wasted your money.
Im not saying sign Mack. But im questioning relying on the draft for an upgrade at arguably the weakest AND most important position on the line.

Because there are two very good guards on this team that help a C out greatly, possibly more so than any other team.
Draft a guy like Stork and let him compete with Lelito for the starting spot. DLP is average and the Saints were fine with him. The spot can easily be upgraded through the draft. I'm feeling really good about the O line.

Well if we dont have the money, we dont have the money.
I think having good guys around the center can make his job a little easier

On paper, it would be awesome. But you have to always expect there to be a transition period on the line - time for them to start working together. Look at Dallas in the early 90s - they had all the pieces but it took them almost 2 years to really settle in and start playing as one unit. It's taken a little while for Grubbs to mesh, but he really seemed to make strides when the LT situation improved. With our signings and Graham contract question mark, I don't think they'll be able to pay anyone other than DLP. And he's been here for almost 3 years, you have to assign some value to that too.

We aren't, but it isn't a position we need to shell out cash on our use a high draft pick. There is value and talent to be had at a reasonable price/pick

The only way for this to happen is to negotiate a sign and trade type arrangement with the Browns. Some think that is against the NFL rules, not technically, the Patriots worked out something like that with the Dolphins for Welker a few years ago. Basically the Saints would have to negotiate a deal with Mack, leave it unsinged, trade Cleveland for his rights then sign the contract.
Having said all that no, not happening. Would be nice, he's an upgrade at a critical position, but not happening.

notice how mediocre center looked good for his first couple years because of strong guard play?
This year, there's 3 or so potential starter caliber centers in this draft, none of which garners a 1st or 2nd round pick. Center is a premium position for us, but for the other 31 teams, not so much.

No way we could afford him.
But..
I have to admit, the reaction would be fricking gold if we did. "SAINTS ANNOUNCE 6 YEAR DEAL WITH C ALEX MACK, CLEVELAND WILL NOT MATCH OFFER SHEET."
Every major NFC south fan board and NFL analyst .. "HOW?!?!" v2
