Is this anything new to get excited about? I looked at a map and as usual it makes great sense if they were to upgrade these roads to include toll lanes with overpasses, etc. But not sure it's more than the usual blurb of "BR LOOP" hoopla.

Tolls!? We don't need no stinking TOLLS!

Two things would greatly improve traffic in BR.

#1 - A loop (for christ's sake Lake Charles has one)

#2 - sync the lights

BR needs a downtown bypass. It really makes no sense as to why there isn't one.

Right. that's what I'm hoping for. Too many NIMBYs shelved our real loop plans over the years. But this toll-bypass looks very doable to the untrained eye(IT guy) looking at a google map. I would like to see some kind of major upgrades to the roads in EBR in my lifetime. Perkins widening was great as was Oneal and the Central Thruway. Now lets get a $1bil project to help with trucks passing through BR.

The only reason LC has a loop is because I-10 doesn't go through its downtown district. The loop connects downtown to I-10.

For Baton Rouge, a loop would do the opposite...avoid downtown.

A toll is a toll.

And a roll is a roll.

And if we don't get no tolls..

..then we don't eat no rolls.

I made that up.

Should do it Houston style and turn Airline Hwy into an interstate from i12 to well across the bridge and back to i10.

Then, Florida blvd from oneal to downtown.

The first they can do is close the E. Washington Exit on I-10 East. That would alleviate a lot of New Bridge congestion over night.

what BR needs more than anything is a new bridge over the river, between the "new" bridge and the sunshine bridge. thats a HUGE stretch with no other way to cross, and considering the number of plant workers who live in BR but work in iberville or WBR, borderline insane

going from SW BR to Plaquemine, literally right across the river, can take you 50 minutes. how much would traffic headed into downtown could be alleviated if not everyone going west had to go that one single way?

No doubt. It'll serve same purpose, move more traffic through br without having to go directly THROUGH br.

I'm all for this. Lemme vote NOW!!!

Agreed. but what we need and what the NIMBYs will allow are at opposite ends of the table. Happens every few years. This toll road could
1. be done in 5-7 years.
2. be incorporated into the larger loop if it EVER gets done.

All it takes is $1 billion. Literally. That's what you're looking at to build a new river crossing and the approaches (minimum).

Got any ideas where that will come from?
