Anybody have experience in this message? I'm using AutoCAD 2004. I know it's probably no longer being supported, but I was hoping you guys could help me out as to what this error means. I tried googling it, but google didn't know. All I was doing when the error occured was trying to open a drawing from within AutoCAD.

Is it running on a Win 7 or 8 machine? I've seen similar messages running old software on Win 7.

yeah, it's on a Win7 machine.

If it's a 64 bit machine that might be it right there.
Keep in mind I'm only guessing based on my limited experience in the office.
I have more luck running old stuff on XP.

Sounds like you should use Revit instead.

I run into similar probs running an old version of pro tools on a win 7 machine. If you go the .exe file and click properties...compatibility tab...select appropriate version of windows, it may resolve the issue.

Do you need to work on it or just view it? Viewer is free from here or you can download a 30 day trial of AutoCad 2014.
If this is a file you need to be able to work on and you can't (or don't want to) upgrade to a newer version you should search AUGI or another user site to figure out the problem.

AutoCAD: Fatal Error
AutoCAD dishes out more errors than any other program I use. I stopped trying to figure out the rhyme or reason. Just roll with it, curse your computer, reboot, recover command, and try again.

Get rid of Autocad and start using Microstation.

I still use R14 from circa 1997.

2004 is still popular because I think its the last bootleggable version where you only need the key code to unlock.

That was a great version. I used it until 2004 came out.
I still use '08. I can't seem to let it go. Autodesk just informed me that I need to upgrade to '15 because '08 with not be able to upgrade.

Unless you need the fancier features of full Autocad, Draftsite is free and works almost exactly the same way (keyboard shortcuts even match/you can change them like in Autocad).
