Do we live in a police state?

Reading about the guy in Oklahoma got me thinking...
If we lived in a police state would we know it? It's kind of like the frog in the boiling water- if you heat the water slowly, the frog will never know it's hot and boil to death.
So I ask you the Poliboard, do we live in a police state?

Yes. We also now have a thought police just look at the way the left bullies anyone who disagrees with them.

History reveals police states are usually clandestine. We're becoming the exception to that rule.

I'm much more concerned about things at the Federal level, than at the local.

I'd say not yet, but the signs suggest we've been trending that way.
At the local level cops have always been bad and really bad beginning in the 70s when people freaked out over drug crime and elected all these law and order assholes.
I think the real concern, real police state stuff, is occurring at the Fed level with the NSA data collection, TSA and the extra-judicial drone murders of US citizens.
So the water is warm, still livable, but the temp seems to be rising.

Yes.
For a further explanation, please see:

Is this a trick question?
Hell yes we do. Some citizens have found out about it with a drone strike to prove it.

I hope that the majority of the American people are smarter than a frog but hey, the way things are looking, you could be right.

The war on drugs
The patriot act
Yes we live in a police state, sooner or later I think we will have to wrestle control back. I think the events in CT may be the beginnings of that.

Just look at the current list of topics being discussed even here:
-Texas man blows 0.00 on breathalyzer, blood test- still arrested, year later exonerated
-Wife slaps daughter, husband suffocated by cops
Or topics discussed nationally
-No refusal DWI stops with automatic search warrant
-Red light cameras with no appeals process
-Police using license plate scanners tracking movement of your vehicle
-NSA tracking your emails, history, etc without a warrant or cause
-TSA's excessive searches
The list goes on... It's all across the board.
At what point do people say enough is enough?

truly disgusting and disgraceful behavior by the authorities.

I am not sure that we are there quite yet but we do need to correct our course. This is the definition of a police state:
po·lice state
noun
noun: police state; plural noun: police states1. a totalitarian state controlled by a political police force that secretly supervises the citizens' activities.
Police operate in the open but the big G has been secretly collecting information on all of us.

I just hope we can correct it without innocent bloodshed. I wouldn't doubt that at some point people start fighting back. It will be interesting how the cops will react when this happens.

what do you mean by police state.
Obviosuyl there is a threshold for something like this, and a certain level of policing tha people understand and want.
We aren't in a full on Gestapo type police state obviously. (no matter what people say)

If we lived in a police state would we know it?
In my entire life, I have never, ever thought to be afraid of my government. I am now in the process of re-thinking that matter. It's not a happy place to be.

You're wrong.
The various apparatus used by police states are usually clandestine and accomplish their goal without public awareness.

And what police state has existed that wasn't obviously a police state?
