Why would anyone want to go to war with the police. Police don't write laws the legislature does.

When the legislature is controlled by people other than those that elected them, it tends to leave a bad impression on people. If people get to the tipping point, police lose control, and conflict ensues.

Nobody wants to do such things, but the options are becoming narrower.

The police should apply more common sense to their actions, regardless of what the "law" says.

Either the state of denial or the naivete along this thread and others like it can only be described as breathtaking.

na·ive·té /?ni?ev(?)'ta,ni'ev(?)?ta/
noun: naivety; noun: naïvety; noun: naiveté; plural noun: naivetés; noun: naïveté; plural noun: naïvetés
1. lack of experience, wisdom, or judgment.
"the administration's naiveté and inexperience in foreign policy"

I think they've done a great job in making sure the citizens respect what they do, and value law and societal order over individual liberty. You know, convincing the people that all the traffic stops, ID checks etc are for their own personal well being.

Sadly, most people don't change their mind til it hits home.

The truth of the matter is that things change over time as do the feelings of our courts and legislators. For those of you around in the 70s you might remember how rampant crime was in this country and how liberal the court system was. This resulted in the popularity of movies like Death Wish. The police were on the short end of the stick at that time and people got fed up and corrections were made. I think that if people grow dissatisfied with the way things are now you will begin to see things move the other way. That is the great thing about our country and the checks and balances we have in place.

Violent crime actually got worse and peaked in the early 90's. I certainly think there's a balance between law and order, and personal liberty. Until the majority feel the affects, they'll gladly give it up.

Technology may be the tipping point. Personal liberty may become more sacred.

I think is more about people being quite easy to convince of anything thru propaganda means.

Damn the people for being so stupid!

People have always been susceptible to propaganda. Have you made a trip the the ww2 museum and looked at some of the recruiting poster depictions of the japanese?

People are definitely better informed now because of technology. I hope people do choose to champion liberty in the future but only time will tell.

Something is going to happen and it might be something that might not seem that bad. The cops are going to kill the wrong person at the wrong time and people in a community are going to end up getting into a skirmish with them.

I hope it doesn't happen but I can see it taking place. There is real potential for it to happen with the CT situation.

From what I can gather from this board and the world around me, the so called "left" is the majority, right? Life must really suck for some of you guys.

Do not be so sure it will not suck for you in the near future.

What you describe as "checks and balances" is really not what "checks and balances" are in governmental terms. What you described sounds like a gradual change of mind on the part of voters. But it is not automatic and isn't going to happen "just because" - for instance, the host of the voting population are opposed to abortion on demand, especially live birth type abortions and the like. But no checks and balances has ever really threatened "Roe vs. Wade" (even when laws are made thru referendum)because any state that has ever tried to enact a serious law limiting abortion has been slapped down by the Federal courts. Those wanting to resist Obamacare on the grounds that they are morally/ethically/religiously opposed to providing abortions through employer-provided healthcare coverage are facing stiff governmental push-back from the Justice Department and are being roasted in parts of the media for their insensitivity to women. And the Supreme Court has never overturned RvW.

I think so ! I've seen in the last 5 years the Police force in our small community grow from a few officers to at least 2 dozen . We now have a new station with a bigger jail . They have all the new equipment , etc . We're just updating is the answer I get .

With all of the surveillance, I'd hate to be counsel for anyone engaged in legal proceedings with any defense or finance related governmental agency.
