I got an e-mail from Travis at Oskar Blues last night.

quote:

Jax,

I too enjoyed the conversation! ABV is a really cool space. Sure to do well.

I also asked OB brain trust about Louisiana. The answer I got was that we do have a plan for it however may not be until 2015. We are aggressively chasing down the dream and will get there soon enough. This may have to do with exactly what we were talking about. Interest on a broad scale. It tends to be a difficult balance to get to emerging markets at a time that it makes the most sense. We are not as able to predict trends far from home as we would like to be.

I really appreciate the email as I sent it on to our sales management to let them hear the voices out there. It always seems strange to me that there are not more individuals like yourself that reach out in this way. Thank you for that!

Thanks for the note and thank you for enjoying our passions!

If I hear anything about OB in Louisiana, I will be sure to let you know.

Cheers Jax!

Hey, I enjoyed our conversation yesterday and really appreciate the recommendations of places to go in Portland/Bend/Eugene. Those recommendation will be put to good use. Especially those about some of the places I have never been, like Produce Row.

If you get a chance to follow up on Oskar Blues in Louisiana, can you shoot me an e-mail? I would love to pass on whatever information you can give me about OB moving into that market.

I mentioned to you that I participate in a message board that is geared towards LSU/Louisiana and they are currently having a discussion about which breweries will be moving into Louisiana in the next year or two. Here is the link to that conversation. Oskar Blues is high on most people's list. Thought you might enjoy reading about people's thoughts on this.

Hope your move goes well and good luck in Bend!

I'm planning a trip to Bend next month. I'll be sure to pound on some doors and make this happen. Deschutes is expanding their capacity and looking to move into other states. Right now they have plans for OH, KY, WI, PA, and MI. Can LA be far behind?

Dale's pale ale is my go to session beer these days. With their brewery in North Carolina up and running, I'm sure they'll be distributing alot more places over the next few years.

KY, I agree. But it's not OK, it's OH. Big difference... Probably KY is riding OH's shirttail...

That's a good arse beer imo.

What exactly is a session beer (excuse my unmavenlyness)? Is it a beer you can drink a shitload of in one session? If so, Dale's PA would fit that bill for me.

Yeah basically low ABV, which I don't really consider Dales. Isn't it like 6.5%? I could still pound a few in a session.

It's interesting that he talked about not being able to predict market trends far from home. I mentioned to him that cans are very popular in LA - especially during football season, Mardis Gras, hunting season, and fishing season. That just about covers the entire year...

He thought that was very interesting, as getting beer drinkers to choose to drink craft beer out of cans can be a challenge.

Base Camp Brewing puts out 22 oz bombers in aluminum bottles. They are cool as hell. Wish more brewers would do this...

Does anybody else do that?
