Why isn't Minnesota shopping Kevin Love now?

They have to know there's zero shot of resigning him after next season(it is next season, right?)

The longer you wait until next season's trade deadline, the less leverage you have. And obviously letting him play the season out next year doesn't make sense as they'll lose him and get nothing in return.

They're 6 games out of the 8th playoff spot. While they could make that up, they likely won't with the current squad they have out there.

It just seems like the obvious thing to do would be to start shopping him now while he's at the best value you can get, having a really great season, and you at least have the leverage of time on your side as opposed to waiting to next year's trade deadline.

They are trying to do whatever they can to keep him.

I think they should shop him this offseason, but it doesn't appear that they will.

I think teams are scared to offer what it would take to land him because they know he will be going to the Lakers most likely in 2015 anyways.

If they can pull something off that makes keeping him make sense, that would obviously be the best route to go, i just don't see how that is remotely possible.

I just don't get why they wouldn't.

The Wolves aren't keeping Love. It's almost impossible to imagine that happening. They should be looking to deal.

Ok, now that I didn't think of.

When is the earliest he could sign the extension?

This would make sense, if so.

Whenever he wants, I think.

ETA: I know there's a deadline for it, but if he were to get moved he could sign an extension this offseason, or the first half of the season next year

So he can't sign it til the offseason or later?

This would explain why they wouldn't move him now, as they could get more if he's willing to extend with whatever team they'd trade him to.

Like it was said, teams will give up much less if they don't have the guaranteed extension upon his arrival.

There's a deadline for signing an extension for all players.

I think it's a week after the trade deadline or something like that.

I'm from Minnesota and he's made comments that he wants to stay with the Wolves. I also believe that we can offer him more money than any other team.

If Love wanted to be traded now all he has to do is agree to pick up his player option for 2015/16 and the Wolves could make a fair trade for him.

But if he waits and declines to pick up his player option then he can opt out next year and go where he wants to go.

Love for David Lee and Harrison Barnes works in the trade machine and GS could possibly convince him to stay.

I dont understand why Love would want to go to LAL to play with Kobe Bryant's corpse and a bunch of filler. Gasol for Love and Brewer works in the trade machine

Well he's not going to show his arse like Melo, Howard, etc. but there is 0% chance he stays. The dude is a competitor and never has/never will be in contention for a title while playing for the TWolves.

I rest my case...

No good offers yet. The Mavs were looking at him but they don't have shite in the way of good prospects

Because he is at least a top 7 or 8 player in the league. Those guys dont grow on trees and very rarely bring back value. If they really think he will bolt, they will move him this summer. If Love says he will opt in, a la Paul and Howard, his trade value remains intact into next season.

What they should be doing is looking to move anyone else to get better players. Rubio, Pekovic, KMart- see what they can find.

As for the extension comment, the new CBA makes signing extensions absolutely worthless. No player will ever sign an extension under the current rules.

Going to be as shitty as the Twins next year

I was wondering this same question earlier today

The guy is going to LA no matter what the wolves try to do. They might as well make a trade that sets you up for live after Kevin Love. They aren't making the playoffs.

If that is the best they can get they are better off keeping him and just letting him walk if it comes to that.
