Per ESPN, Captain Munnerlyn a Saints target?

ESPN.com's Mike Triplett lists free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn as a possible target of the Saints. The Saints are in need of a No. 2 corner behind Keenan Lewis and could look to steal away Munnerlyn from the Panthers. New Orleans currently lacks depth at cornerback after cutting Jabari Greer and may still release Patrick Robinson as a salary-cap casualty. Munnerlyn is expected to begin contract talks with Carolina at the Combine next week and could be re-signed before free agency.

We really need a legit no 2.

When Keenan Lewis went down with that injury at Philly, Nick Foles absolutely destroyed our seconday and Desean Jackson was raping us. They were slinging it all over the field and connecting. Lewis was our only answer with the weather helping us. If they had gotten the ball back with enough time, there's no doubt in my mind they win or at least get into FG range.

At some point, you just have to say frick it, find a FA corner.

Cuz we certainly can't seem to draft one.

Got no problem with this, as he's a good player and has one of the all time greatest names.

At the very least we can make Carolina spend more money to stop him from going to a division rival.

Saints should be able to do better than Munnerlyn.

I could be okay with this because of Greer being cut and all, but PRob a cap casualty? I thiught he was one of the cheaper to keep than cut guys. Im not big on PRob, just saying. Wonder what Captain Munnerlyn is gonna cost? The Saints seem to fill holes prior to the draft so that they can go BPA and not be hand cuffed to a certain position of need.

Porter worked for a bit. He was good but never great, but could lock down 2s well enough and always had a nose for the ball. Had he stayed healthy I think he'd still be a decent starter.(just looked it up and this year was his first without missing a game)

Outside of him I can't recall the last good corner we drafted. Lewis, Greer, McKenzie, and Fred Thomas were all free agents.

Just looked it up actually.

LINK

We have a long horrible history of drafting corners. Molden was the last decent one, but he was 11th overall in 96 and was only a full time starter 2 years with us and one with the Chargers.

As for the OP, Trip is just guessing he could be a target, not stating that he is. I agree it makes sense since he's been pretty solid and should be cheaper than other options, but that doesn't mean we are targeting him.

Of course but it will cost more. The Saints have to find a balance between cost and talent that makes sense.

I'm not saying we won't spend more, just that if we go cheaper he is definitely in the cheaper range and would be pretty cost effective.

As for PRob getting cut, again that is just Trip speculating and I very much disagree with him. He's cheap enough the you let him play out this season just to make sure if you have something there.

He has shown flashes but between injury and inconsistent we've never really gotten a chance to see what he is.

No problems with Munnerlyn, but doesn't Ryan prefer bigger, taller CBs?

It gets said that Ryan prefers a lot of things, but now that we have him and seen his work first hand it's evident he prefers to figure out how to work with what he has.

If Munnerlyn is all they feel they can afford for the price/talent then Rob will work with him.

I guess this means we aren't trading for Mo Claiborne

Still pisses me off

I was screaming for Eddie George and my buddy was saying how he would be no good. I still give him grief when I see him around draft time
