Experiences with car salesmen share here

So started shopping for a new truck today. I dread dealing with car salesmen.
While at one of the dealerships I spent about 10-15 minutes looking at trucks without a salesman coming out to greet me. They did not seem to be very busy. I was aggravated and ended up getting back into my vehicle and driving off.
Would you have done the same or would you have gone inside and found a salesman on your own.
Also any recommendations for new truck salesmen in BR are recommended. TIA.
I know TLDR.

I shop around on auto trader. Wheel and deal through email. Once I'm satisfied with a price. Go in and sign papers. Leave with new/used vehicle. Less bull shite to deal with.

People seriously still go to a car lot and just walk around and check out the cars there? I'm looking for a new (used) car now as well, and every time I find it online first and then go to check out that specific car. I have yet to just go to a dealership and walk around.

Deal with the Internet department. They usually work off volume instead of margin.

This.
Just bought a new truck last week. Did everything online except to go drive the truck and sign the papers.

Long story here but it's funny.
Go to buy a new corvette at a local dealership. At the time I was 30 and was still in my scrubs from work. I tell the salesman I want to talk some numbers and ordering options(never tell them you are there to buy initially btw). He says he doesn't know much about the corvettes but he would get the sales manager for me. He walks over to a group of salesman that are all just fricking off and not with customers. When he walks back he tells me "he said you can find any information you want on the internet" but to "come back when you are ready to buy". So I laugh and leave.
Next day I go back hoping to talk to someone that wants to sell a $70k car. This dickhead asks me if I have a cosigner after seeing my financials. My dad was with me to drive my other car home and lost it. Slams his finger on my gross income for the previous 2 years and says "does e look like he needs a cosigner? He isn't here to finance anything." Been going out of my way to steer people away from that dealership since.

I did a couple of years ago. Sold my truck and my wife's old car, and needed something quickly since we went from 3 vehicles to 1 in a matter of 2 days. I had been looking online for stuff, but not seriously since I needed to sell the others first, and was actually planning on driving whichever vehicle I had didn't sell. But I couldn't turn down an asking price offer on the 2nd one, and then needed to find something, so I rode around looking at used lots for a weekend. After all that, ended up buying off of Craigslist.

Coming from a car dealers perspective this is interesting. The typical first response from a customer when approached by a salesman is "I don't need any help, I'm just looking", but when a customer is not greeted promptly, they are typically offended. I think people feel like they are being pre qualified and are insulted if a salesman doesn't come out and offer their assistance.

You should feel lucky to not be greeted by car salesmen.

Find a dealership where they don't block off the isles.
Drive slowly up by the front so the salesmen smoking cigs can see you
Park long enough for one of them to start walking to your car
Very slowly drive away when he is 5ft from your car
Stop once you get maybe 20ft away from him
He'll keep walking to your car, and just go again once he gets close
Do this around the entirety of the parking lot and laugh the whole time
I have done it twice, and sweet Jesus it is funny. Desperation is hilarious

As someone about to start looking for a new car, what I really want is someone I can work with, perhaps over a few weeks, who will keep an eye out for what I want. A hard sale isn't going to work on me, so pressing me to do something I don't want to do is just going to waste time and make it awkward.
That said, I understand salesmen have a job to do and they don't want to put in too many minutes/hours on a deal that may not happen.

Was literally going to post the same thing.
Usually people are complaining hardcore about being attacked by a sales person.

Very passive aggressive of you. Some dealerships are "no pressure" where they'll ask if you'd like coffee and if you have any questions, you come to them. Contrary to popular belief, you can get on and off a car lot without being noticed.
Your post is also serious enough to leave us with price range, use, and any brand preferences.

I never shop at a dealership. I never buy new because its not worth the extra money. I find it online and go buy it. If I find something on a lot I like I just go in with a "this is what I will give you" attitude. If they dont like it, just be like, "Thanks for your time." And go to leave, they will stop you 99% of the time.
Also if you talk to them on the phone before driving out to look at the car and it was misrepresented, dont even bother haggling them down because of it. If they misrepresented one thing they probably lied about a bunch of things and its a car/truck you dont want. Just tell them what a piece of shite they are and leave. I've had to do that too many times. Makes me want to knock them the frick out, especially if I drove a long way to look at it
