All of this has happened before and it will happen again.

The difference being in previous tech revolutions, the new technology has created other jobs to replace the old ones. This is no longer tha case. Robots can do almost everything better, cheaper, and more efficiently than humans, and the trend is accelerating. So what happens to the now-permanently unemployed and unemployable?

They will be taken care of by the employed citizens via our taxes taken from our paychecks. Duh. What a great system

What happens to the unemployed at Foxconn? You mean the place which has installed anti-suicide nets to keep workers from jumping to their deaths?

I hope they can make it.

Point being, there will be fewer and fewer people employed. Don't think this trend won't affect your middle class white collar job eventually.

Missed my reference... Was hoping someone from the M/TV Board would have chimed in on this.

Personally, I'm all for it. If someone has to run the world, I think Google would do a fine job. Certainly better than any current government. I can honestly say that if the US declared war on Google tomorrow, I would probably sign up at the local Google-Army recruitment center, or maybe sign up through some super convenient app.

I've been struggling with this for a while. It's a conundrum.

The best I can come up with, is that you plug people into a virtual reality, ala Matrix style, and let them live out fantasies. Or kill them off.

Isn't the desired end result one where all labor is automated and no one has to do these shite jobs? That's what technology does.
