Just read an interesting article. It stated that one way to fix failing public schools would be to abolish private schools.

I've heard a lot of ways to fix public schools, but this one is the first time I've ever heard this one.

There is one simple step that would go a long way toward resolving many of those issues: Make all schools public schools.

From a purely strategic and practical standpoint, it would be much easier to resolve the schools crisis if the futures of America's wealthiest and most powerful children were at stake. Wealthy people tend to lobby effectively for their interests, and if their interests were to include adequate public funding for the schools their children attend, and libraries, and air-conditioning, those goals could likely be achieved without having to resort to unpleasant things like teachers' strikes.

Billionaire wise hobbit Warren Buffet once told school reformer Michelle Rhee that the easiest way to fix schools was to "make private schools illegal and assign every child to a public school by random lottery."

It would definitely make some public schools better, but I'm pretty sure we live in America

I guess Warren Buffet hates America.

Sure.
What could possibly go wrong with this idea?

Without going all Poli Board, you realize that this is Socialism and only works in theory. Right?

Worst idea ever. Andit would never happen. Next

I don't think it would work. Just saying that I've never heard the idea before.

Yes, this will fix everything. I'm sure quotas wouldn't be put in place with the "random selection" of students, and teachers would be much better at their jobs without competition. If we are going to eliminate private schools, we should eliminate teacher unions as well.

Public schools receive plenty of money.
The problem is parents, not funding.

I know of a teacher in Ascension that actively advocates this.

This is so anti-American its hilarious.
And it would never happen.
Lets force kids to go to schools they don't want to go to so the schools get better. You think all those congressmen that make the laws have their kids in public schools?

Our public neighborhood schools worked just fine until private schools came into the picture.
