I have seen a few online.

Its been a year since our golden passed. Time for my youngest son to get his own pup. Wife and I cannot agree on a breed....but she mentioned a Long Haired Retriever (Also known as Flat Coat). Of the list of options she gave me, this seems the most likely to be a possible hunting buddy and house pet. Not required that the dog hunt, but if he/she wants to - i will certainly train.

I wanted a Boykin. She shot it down.

On what grounds? Too nice of a temperment? Too strong of a hunting drive? Too cute as puppies? Too beautiful as full grown dogs? Don't say too hyper or too much shedding because a long hair will be just as bad. Boykins are great hunting dogs and wonderful companions. Unless she just has to have a big dog, in which case I can't really argue with you there. Love my little brown dog.

Never heard of em. Looked it up.

looks like you want a Lab, but are too cool/hip to own the most popular breed in America

I've got a big goofy golden that picked up a lot of birds this year. I've never attempted to train him. He just watched my departed Lab bring me back birds and knows I want him to bring me back birds. It's been pretty interesting watching him progress.

I have a choc lab as my hunting companion. Youngest son will be 7 in May. Gettin him a pup.

She wanted a St Bernard or a Portugese Water Dog. I shot them down.

Thanks for responses....

Seriously. Just show her this picture, it'll be over and you can get your boykin:

The Boykin has a natural desire to retrieve?

The breed, not just your dog.

I love my little pup and she is beautiful.. But when I throw something, she trots over and lays down with it and starts nibbling on it.

But you tell her "hunt the birds", she will get up and hit the first edge with her nose on the ground, whether its a bush, couch, kitchen cabinets..
