Although we lost some guys, overall we did a good job of keeping the top talent in the state. Especially when you compare to teams like Texas.

Louisiana
LSU
5 of top 10
10 of top 20

Alabama
UA
6 of top 10
7 of top 20

Auburn
4 of top 10
5 of top 20

Texas
UT
1 of top 10 recruits (LSU has 2 of
of Texas top 10)
4 of top 20

TA&M
2 of top 10
5 of top 20

7 players from Louisiana with LSU offers decided to leave the state this year. Hopefully we don't see a number that high again anytime soon.

I can't think of all 7. Who are they? Does Hootie still count?

Who cares anymore who we didn't keep for 2014? It is over and done with. Celebrate who stayed and who we signed from OOS. What a great combination of high talented kids with great character.

You cant look at Texas for comparison. Everyone in the country recruits that state every year.

I think it is pretty obvious that everyone in the country recruits LA now with recruits leaving for Bama, Florida, A&M, UCLA, etc

I think it was an anomaly to a certain extent. Hopefully we don't see 7 players leave the state with offers from LSU again. In my mind, some of them were probably a blessing in disquise. Willis clearly has character issues. Loss of hootie opened the door for Adams, who is no doubt the better safety.

CRob, Willis, Speedy and Young were legit

Hootie - not sure what happened after the whole decommit thing

McDowell - didn't we offer him at a different positions? FB?

Palelei - wasn't the Williams interest what scared him off?

The only problem with those numbers is the LSU is the only big fish in Louisiana. Texas and Alabama each have more than one big time university competing for in state talent

And fwiw, I'm like anyone else in that I'd love to keep all the best kids in state, but stuff happens. Can't win em all and I'm very pleased with how the staff pulled in kids from all over.

3 guys from John Curtis went to three different Pac 12 schools this year. That's pretty crazy.

I don't think it's fair to include McDowell, and it's definitely not fair to include Palelei.

I guess we can include D'Haquille Williams though. So there were 6 in-state players who chose to head elsewhere. With so many being receivers, there was no way all of them were coming here, and Adams is an upgrade over Hootie. However, there are about 4 guys who it will definitely hurt to see elsewhere, and with those guys, this would have been the greatest class in LSU history.

Still a very good recovery by Les and crew after the UA Game, with the Texas pick-ups and closing out on Valentine and keeping Clark.

I think we recruited louisiana to hard. Had we not played around with noil, young, willis, etc. we could have had a combination of dequil, blacknall, porter, speaks, mccray, and i'm sure others early in the process that we waited on the louisiana guys instead of taking quality guys that wanted to be here.

LA, as another poster said, is the only in-state power. This is crucial, and is one reason for LSU's success. Another is the depth of the talent pool. It is probably 6th or 7th best in the country (and the top 3 states have 3-4 in-state powers each). That's why I've said many times that LSU is the easiest job in the country for a coach to be successful at.

If you look at the state of Alabama, there were only 10 players who were 4 stars or higher. There were 16 such players in Louisiana. 14 had LSU offers and 9 came here.

Unlike the other examples, LSU is the only major school in its state.
